I want an economy. Not just a few vendors and shops, but a full-fledged economy.
Bungie was looking to hire people for this specific purpose a long time back and I believe they will be bringing this to the table in a big way. Typically games have a computerized vendor that gives you a % of the normal price for selling weapons and armor, but I believe Bungie will do something much more for Destiny. They tell us that we will become attached to our weapons, armor, vehicles and such, so to place a standard taxed rate on these items would belittle their importance. By establishing an auction house and additional complicated vendor algorithms (timed sales, specific item mark-ups, demand/supply fluctuations) it will support this pillar that Bungie has established.
Below is an example of what this could look like. It is not written well, but hopefully you get the idea of what I'm getting at.
I spend 8 hours with a weapon, both in campaign and PVP, and I grow quite attached to its specific feel and shooting style. I upgrade it with money and love, tailoring it to my specific needs as an Exo Warlock. In a high level raid I stumble upon a weapon slightly better (only after upgrading later, of course); my warlock is in quite the pickle!
In a normal game economy, I would go to the vendor and feel like I'm sitting in a Gamestop because of how bad I'm going to be ripped off. So I would curse under my breath and bite the bullet, knowing that I wasted all that time upgrading a trashed weapon.
But in Destiny this cannot be the case. No weapon is trash, and no time is wasted. So I take my weapon to the auction house and put up an ad for my beloved weapon - I have named her Quivering Shibby (don't ask). After about 20 minutes, I haven't got any bites, so I take it to a vendor just to see. I make my way around and compare prices at three local vendors and I am quite surprised to see that she is in high demand! Apparently many people at the auction have been purchasing guns like my own, and due to that and the extreme amount of glimmer and weapon kits I have invested, my gun is now worth quadruple its original value (it also helped that the third vendor was marking up FWC weapons for the weekend). Of course I would love to meet the Guardian face to face as they head off with Shibby into the wilderness, but my time is precious and I am glad to have gotten such a fair price.
Who knows what type of destruction this new gun will bring, but I do know that Shibby and I ended the life of hundreds of our mutual enemies; I will not forget that, and neither will she.
I would love to hear some of your thoughts regarding an economy in Destiny. Is it a good idea? What would make you want to spend time investing in this new universe? How would you make my idea better?

Trading yes, Auction Houses no.
