Living Exos

Edit: With all the excitement over the Exo Warlock from the weekly update people have begun referencing the old photo of a female Exo Hunter. It's a bit blurry, but here's a new, higher res version I just took: Female Exo Hunter Today's Weekly Update had a cool piece of info in it:
Thanks to private loot streams, we didn’t look alike for long. Sure, we were still both Warlocks. And yes, we both had the beating artificial heart of a nasty war machine, but we both found the means to be pimpin’ in our own special way.
I made a thread a long time ago speculating about the Exo; their origins, what they actually were, etc. This sentence essentially proves my theories that the Exos are more than just robots. Recently people have been saying that Exos are just machines created during the Golden Age, but I've always thought them to at least have some form of living organic tissue beneath their hard exoskeletons. (Exo = exoskeletal war machine?) With this new bit of info my guess has changed from my old theory (humans engineered with robotic exoskeletons) to the Exos having some form of synthetic tissue within the afore mentioned exoskeletons. It fits with the lore, and the fact that Deej specifically said "beating heart" implies that they are more than just robots with gears and pistons and wires. What do you guys think?

 • Haven't read or watched everything related to Destiny yet, but I haven't seen anything yet that says they aren't straight up robots with AI. Would prefer that, would add another mystery to solve in the universe. Machines booted up with no memory and re-purposed as war machines? What were they for originally? What wiped their memories? If the original purpose was non-military and the Exos were tampered with during the repurposing, what does that do to the story and their status as Guardians? Do Exos split on deciding whether to keep being what they are or try to go back to what they were? Would they even be allowed to make the choice? Lots of drama to explore. Besides, how do you show the meatbags how it's done if you're part meatbag yourself?
