I guess you never got the memo.... Sony exclusive were announced Feb 2013 and again last summer. We've already been down this road.... twice. That said: You do understand that Destiny/Sony have a marketing agreement for special marketing consideration, right? The same way the COD/MS have one and, to an even greater extent,Titanfall/MS. It's just smart business. Slap a PS4 logo on an advertisement and send the bill to Sony. Hell, looking back at the old Bungie/Activision preliminary contract, it seems like at one point Destiny was suppose to launch first on Xbox/X1. So the real question is... What fell apart with that deal? What went wrong? Original contract with Activision from 2010: http://m.joystiq.com/2013/02/17/destiny-what-we-know-now-vs-details-in-the-activision-bungie-con/ Sony discussing the marketing partnership: http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2013/08/28/jim-ryan-there-will-be-destiny-playstation-hardware-bundles-god-of-war-ii-looked-better-than-ps3-launch-games/
Another publisher, Activision, has (and will continue to) release map packs first on Xbox for their Call of Duty games, but when it comes to Destiny, PlayStation will be king, as Jim explained: "We’ve carefully selected titles where we feel it’s appropriate to partner with a third party. So Activision, yes, are doing stuff on Call Of Duty with Microsoft. However, we are partnering with Activision on Destiny. And you know Destiny is a new IP from Bungie and there’s gonna be stuff that is exclusive to the PlayStation SKU for a window of time and there’s gonna be a lot of PlayStation-branded marketing collateral and there’s gonna be PlayStation hardware bundles."
TL;DR: If I were a betting man, I'd say Mircosoft did something screw themselves over. And Sony was smart enough to get in on the ground floor while they could. MS probably put their eggs in one basket.... Titanfall.
