I know the Devils Lair video was a strike and all, but it certainly looked like an arena type area. Do you think the rest of the game is gonna be fairly similar or are we gonna be able to go out and just explore Skyrim style? I hope it's the latter.

Edited by Blorgish: 5/1/2014 4:50:03 AMThere was a video and the reviewers said that there were many paths blocked off when they played throughout the strikes. There are likely sides and more events that happen in strikes. Also strikes are not in the actual shared world. If you have played WoW, it is like an instance. It is literally a separate instance of the game where the only people are you and your team. You cannot encounter other players. The "Campaign" is basically an open world, as you mentioned, like Skyrim. There are Strikes which are like secluded events in an area where you cannot encounter other players. Not quite an arena but like a dungeon. Everything in the Strike (as far as I know) are pre-set. Each time you do the strike it will be the same enemies. Then there are Patrols which I think are less of a pre-set fight. And a bit more exploration. We don't have much about patrols yet however.

Edited by Snrkiwi: 5/1/2014 4:08:44 AMYeah I believe so there's also a patrol mission that's been discussed and hasn't been touched on to much but supposedly it's a search an recover hidden treasures or loot not 110%, bug yeah full exploration seems confirmed.
-
It sounds like Patrol is the game mode you would play to just explore the universe. The strike we saw was more linear, but that was to further the main plot points. There are modes like Patrol that will allow exploration and freedom.
-
If you've ever played borderlands it will be like that. If you haven't I'll explain it to you.
-
From what i have seen and heard from the interviews the devils lair strike had areas closed off for the demonstration. so the strikes are not as liniar as they seem in the video. You can go exploring in the strike so it shouldn't feel as though there is only a single route. Like what was mentiond before by CaptKrunch 96 a strike is similar to a dungeon and as the name implies it is a 'strike' to a single area. Outside of strikes and other group activities you can go exploring to what extent i can only speculate.
-
I'd imagine Strikes are like instanced dungeons. What oScience said. They already confirmed patrol mode where you will touch down in an area and be able to explore it to it's fullest extent.
-
Yes it is an open world, not so much in the case of the Devil's Lair Strike. Which was a; go in, shoot it up, and get out type of Strike. A Patrol Strike is a mode intended for free roaming and picking up outside quest, plus looting!
-
They been saying that it will be an open world that you can explore. So let's just hope for the best :)
-
(SSE) I think it will be more open world style like skyrim.
-
Edited by Folk: 5/1/2014 12:07:22 AMImagine that strike mission more as a dungeon... The game isn't entirely open world though, you will fast travel to large explorable areas, which are then riddled with dungeons and secrets to seek out.
-
Edited by Sampsin: 5/1/2014 12:15:27 AMThere making a play style for all moods, thus including the "roam" mode that I have heard Bungie describe as a open sandbox for free adventure and no way points.. my only question is how expansive is the world (or rather worlds) going to be.
plus we will all be getting our personal shrike, this should be a clue to how big the we world will be
-
I believe that the strike is in fact an example of some kind of dungeon like mission that you can go on with friends. But considering the amount of emphasis they have put on it being an open world game, I think it's going to be pretty open.
-
I think it is open-world, but with sections. You can still travel across the whole land, but there will be a loading screen separating each area. So, it would be a half open world. I think that's what it will be like. Or maybe I'm just hoping too much.
-
I feel like the Devils Lair was more of a "hold down the fort and be swarm. Oh look, you survive. Okay move on to the next area to be swarm." I do agree with you a tad bit on the arena type area because you are stuck in an area for a timing being, but it feels more like your interrupting a gang war and your just passing through and you got an asshole blocking your way, type scenario. If you think about, Every FPS is an arena. Your stuck in an area and the only way to move on is to kill everybody else. People don't think all FPS as an arena because we think of an arena as a small, enclosed space. What makes us think otherwise is the mission. In devils lair, your main purpose is to kill the leader, retrieved something, or even just get to the other side. During the video that was shown, one of the side objective is to repel all attackers until the traps are deactivated. If it makes you feel better, Play the arena in Darksider 2. Because that is a straight up Arena type battle. Where you kill certain amount of people in an open field and be awarded. While you got some "pretend" audience cheering in the bleachers.

Edited by LugDubh: 4/30/2014 9:44:56 PMPatrols are the free-roam, open ended and open world activities in Destiny.
Beyond strikes, we also find out about Patrol missions, which are effectively open-ended exploration opportunities. Players touch down in a specific area, then get to simply hunt the landscape for treasure and easter eggs, or take on mini-tasks for the various factions that exist within the guardian city. Deej said there's a game mode where you go around and scavenge
-
No one seems to reply to any posts these days
-
I think its easy for an urban area like where they were playing to seem linear, i'm sure that Destiny is mostly open world.
-
I think that it will be more Skyrim-esque, but, unlike Skyrim, it will have set instances, such as raids and strikes, similar to WoW or somesuch.
-
Anyone?
-
It's hard to judge with what little game footage we have been shown at this point
-
I really hope its fully open world. FREEDOM!
-
Hold on. I will reply one hour later about this but first I need to gather my intelligence thought and evidence. But I will reply one hour later.
-
And yes I hope it's the latter
