I haven't seen this discussed in a while, but I also don't spend a lot of time in #Destiny.
We've seen friendly fire tackled many different ways in games. Perhaps it's in all game modes, limited to a hardcore mode, or not included at all. Most of the time, it seems to work alright.
I think games generally feel much better in competitive play with friendly fire on. It demands a higher level of attention and tactics. While it can be a source of annoyance when random players kill to grief others, it doesn't happen too often and they can be booted from the game. I hope to see it in Destiny.
We know Destiny won't have power weapons placed on the maps as a motivator to kill teammates that picked up the weapon wanted by another. This means there would be fewer occurrences of betrayal than something such as Halo due to these kinds of gameplay conflicts, unless, that is, the ammo will drop in the same way. What we don't know is just how quickly players will die and if teammates will easily die from misplaced gunfire or explosives. Comparing again to Halo, health was large enough that teammates had a decent chance of survival from these types of accidents. If Destiny features smaller health pools, perhaps a remedy could be to lower the damage done to teammates.
We've yet to play Destiny and we already know that friendly fire is off the table in at least some cooperative play (and hopefully all, which is for the best), but will it also be off in competitive play?
What would you like to see in terms of damaging teammates in Destiny?
