I'm not even joking or shitposting here, Free Speech is the single most important thing in a functioning society. If you are not free to say what you want, you are not free at all.
-
With free speech comes many good and bad things free speech can start revolutions, riots, and much more and worse
-
Youd see fit to have someone lose their life for denying the right to speech.. Isn't life a lil more basic of a right than speech?
-
Newsflash. Nobody has "free" speech. Even if every nation on Earth adopted "free" speech rights people still wouldn't have 'free' speech. You're still a slave to societal pressures. What other people will think and how they will act still chains and limits your speech. And nor should people be able to say whatever they want. Classic example that is thrown around all the time is saying fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire. Speech like that is banned and should continue to be banned.

Edited by Cultmeister: 6/6/2014 11:06:35 AMYou know, if people actually taught peace and tolerance and equality, rather than demanding it, we might all get along a bit better.
-
you're free to say what you want, BUT, that also applies to the large amount of people you piss off, and they also have every right to call you a -blam!- for saying those things.
-
You are free to say whatever you want without censorship. That doesn't mean anyone else has to host you while doing it. If you're using a the servers of a website, such as bungie.net, they have all the right to shut you down if you're not contributing in a positive way.
-
Responsible speech > Unrestricted speech Criticize the government and vocally hate people all you want, but the moment you try to incite violence or hatefully slander an entire group of people is where I jump off.
-
I'm thankful that I'm free to say whatever I like. No matter how much it upsets others.

Edited by Dieselrose: 6/6/2014 3:24:41 AMlol you Americans and your view if "freedom". "Free" to say what you like, however if you say you are gay and want to get married everyone in your country is up in arms. Say something against the bible or Christianity and half the country is disgusted in you. And even if you were allowed to say what you want when you want it would effect other people's freedoms because you would upset/offend/anger people, and the same would happen to you. This would in turn cause fighting and arguments, which would turn to violence, which would in turn cause chaos... Chaos would then need people to take away some of your freedoms to protect you idiots from yourselves. But keep clinging to your dreams of "freedom".

I disagree and believe my life is more important than everyone elses
Free speech is a basic human right
First amendment somewhat superfluous, then?
-
Duct tape.
-
So... If I disagree with you (by using free speech to say I don't like free speech) you want me to die? So much for free speech. *gets feeling this whole thread is chasing its tail*
-
Okay, but that doesn't mean that people have to like you for what you say and talking shit doesn't prevent you from getting stabbed by someone you piss off. All speech is free until someone takes offense to it and your mouth writes a check your ass can't cash.
-
Rights have to be earned. Existing is not a free entitlement to rights.

From a technical standpoint, you can say anything you want at any time so long as you have a functioning tongue. So, therefore, you always have free speech so long as you can speak.
-
Muting goes against free speech. Ban muting.
-
Can't wait for people to flock into this thread and say "Hate Speech isn't Free Speech!" Guess what?
It is.
-
>human rights
-
I disagree. Free speech? Sure. Freedom to say whatever the -blam!- you want about people to cause violence, misery, grief and hatred? No. Criticising the government should be protected by all means, but I couldn't give two flying -blam!-s if some little gobshite gets sent off to jail for sending harassing messages to people. That isn't freedom of speech, that's called being a -blam!-.

I agree it should be a basic right. The application of this belief is lacking.

Different cultures have different values. In the eyes of some you're the one violating basic human rights by not respecting their god all the time. Not all people are brought up to feel the same way about things and you can't really hate them for it.
