Hmm. So are Patrol missions are similar to Strikes, but shorter and more local? Also, Free Roam?

Patrol missions really aren't like Strikes because you don't really have to face any bosses on them except for a few exceptions. And Free Roam is when the game just lets you explore Old Russia in its entirety.

But it is still the same basic thing? Go out on a mission and shoot some stuff?

It is up to you if you want to do missions or just shoot stuff. Or both. How you play in Patrol is completely up to you.

As of right now yes. I'm hoping Patrol missions are a little more fleshed out in the final game.
