Just a n00b question. The four nets were the most powerful beings in the galaxy, with insanely OP weapons and ships. So how did the flood/ancient humans destroy them?

Ancient humanity actually rivaled the power of the Forerunners. During the human-Forerunner war, human tech advanced to extremely high levels. Enough to effectively contend with the Forerunner Warrior-Servants for 1,000 years. The Forerunners were extremely arrogant, so when they encountered the Flood, they treated it like a disease. By the time they realized the true nature of the parasite, it was too late. The Flood had already gained a too significant portion of the galaxy. This is further compunded by the fact that in the final 10 years of the war, they gained access the invincible Precursor constructs like Star Roads.

Oh , okay. So the flood won because of arrogance and super weapons. Thanks
-
It's definitely more complex than that, but that's the gist.

Yeah, I pieced together most of that from the halo 4 terminals, but i just needed to be sure. So what do you think the campaign will be like in halo 5, all chief, all Locke, switching between them halo 2 style?
-
All Chief. It is his story after all.
-
Interesting. Do you think Locke could be the same mysterious ONI interrogator at the start of 4?
-
Probably not no. The interrogator is white and Locke is black.
-
Skin color or armor?
-
Skin color.
-
How do you know either? The interrogator was in the shadows and locked helmets always been on
-
The interrogator is voiced by Bruce Thomas who is white. The odds of the character being white are very high. Say hello to Mike Colter. This is the actor playing Locke in Halo: Nightfall.
-
Wow. You know your stuff, color me impressed.
-
Fun fact, the majority of the Chief's motion capture is done by Bruce Thomas, while the athletic scenes are done by an unknown younger actor.
-
Really? I did not know that, okay so what do you think the enemies will be in guardians? I'm personally hoping for an all new species of reptilian savages, but that's never happening. Probably covie factions led by jul with Halsey right?
-
"I tell you this not because I trust you, Agent Locke, but because all out lives are at stake." Who will be enemies in Halo 5? The Covenant, Prometheans, and based on the line, the Flood. But who will be the main antagonist? Unknown. I would assume the Flood, but going off that one line would be too presumptuous.
-
If I had to guess, I would say Jul and Halsey, that would be great because Halsey is the closest thing chief has to a mother, and to cortana
-
Well, don't forget that Halsey has her own motives. She used Jul in Spartan Ops to reach the Librarian, and she's using Jul now to reach the Absolute Record and dish out revenge on not only ONI, but on Jul as well for cutting off her arm.
-
But jul had to cut of her arm to save her, why would see be angry?

Humans never destroyed the Forerunners. The Forerunners were the ones that devastated humanity. War between them started after automated ships were found to contain viles of a powdery substance. It was examined by Humans and Prophets and there was no harmful effects found with it. In fact, it was used as a breeding mechanism of a popular species of pets. But eventually the genome of these pets greatly mutated and created flood forms. Because many people were keeping these things as pets, the infection spread quickly among human populations. Now you have this infection spreading to Forerunner worlds and the Humans were trying to stop it so they attacked these worlds. Humans tried to explain to the Forerunners that the Flood was the reason but they thought it was a made up story and war ensured. Facing a two-front war, humanity eventually lost. Once Humans were defeated, the Flood left the galaxy. Now the thing is that Human scientists found a cure but when the Forerunners devolved Humans, this knowledge was lost. Years (like centuries or millennium later) the Flood returned to the galaxy on non-military commercial ships. They were able to get past Forerunner defensive and crash landed on the surface of planets which caused the populations to be infected, creating millions if not billions of new Flood forms. The Forerunners were all about the Mantle and protecting life so conducting wide-spread bombardments on planets was not an option. Well eventually it did become an option but it was already too late as Forerunners had gone multiple plans before hand which none worked. They eventually realized that the only way to stop the Flood and protect all life in the galaxy was to build the Halo Arrays to wipe out all life, voiding the Flood of it's food source, but keep samples of each species "on file" so worlds can be repopulated again. This meant that the Forerunners would become extinct. Now there is a prophecy saying the Flood would return to galaxy and it has yet to happened. You may thinking "what about Halos 1-3". Well good thinking because that technically isn't the prophecy. What had happened was the Forerunners kept some Flood isolated on the Halo installations and during the events of Halo:CE, the Flood was accidentally released. What the prophecy is talking about is the Flood coming coming from beyond the reaches of the universe in the numbers like the Forerunners experienced
