How did the flood survive the first activation of the halo rings

Because the Flood are extragalactic in origin, the Forerunners could not know if they would ever return from beyond the border of the galaxy. Because of this, information and live samples of the Flood were kept intact, to research a possible way to defeat or cure the Flood once and for all.

I have a question relating to this; do the Halo's destroy the Flood's physical form or just everything else that's sentient? Yes I know the purpose of the Halo's is "to kill the Floods food, Etc, Etc," but in Halo Legends, when the Halo's fired, we see the Flood literally being blown away. Which is it?

Edited by Mr Admirals7044: 6/15/2014 12:58:11 AMIt's a combination of both. Anything Flood with a nervous system is annihilated, while extremely basic Flood without any nervous systems survive. Welcome back to B.net BTW.

Who, me? If I remember correctly I never left, but thank you anyway!

Oh, I'm confusing you with another Offensive Bias, my bad.

So that's why we saw the infection form emerge from the Forerunner helmet at the end of Origins 2. Also, what did you think of the scene with Master Chief receiving a chip from the Gravemind in Origins? Cortana's rampant state or something else? Yeah, I only chose this name to see how long it would take Mendicant Bias to notice it. It took him a while!
So that's why we saw the infection form emerge from the Forerunner helmet at the end of Origins 2.
Don't forget the images of everything aren't necessarily canon as they were from Cortana's rampant point of view.
Also, what did you think of the scene with Master Chief receiving a chip from the Gravemind in Origins? Cortana's rampant state or something else?
Probably, but going back to Origins after the Forerunner Trilogy and Halo 4, it's crazy how much info 343i jam packed into Legends foreshadowing what's going to happen in the future. So, while I'd normally dismiss that scene, I have two possible interpretations. 1. That's how Cortana remembers things happening, the Gravemind deliberately gave her to the Chief. 2. She believes the Gravemind intended for Chief to get her. In essence, it was a Flood trap. A trap for what? To reveal the Index Cortana had? Or something more elaborate?

What did 343 put into Legends that is relevant the future Halo's? I like to think that the Chief is eventually going to have to return to the Lesser Ark and find the Gravemind to get Cortana back. I've always wondered if the Gravemind made a copy or kept some fragments of Cortana, considering the extensive damage he did to her, and what she first says to Chief when he finds her in Halo 3 ( I can't really remember what she says exactly, but it's along the lines of her "not being who she used to be").
What did 343 put into Legends that is relevant the future Halo's?
you're in for a treat. onyx and us at the archive [well aside from myself, as i was away] have looked thoroughly into this. in fact this deserves an actual question itself just so the answer can be put on display.
