It doesn't feel right. Chief never get in affections like that except for Cortana or maybe his squad. "Ally" would've made more sense.

That's thanks to Bungie's excellent idea to make Chief silent unless talking to something human.

Kinda made sense though. I mean. He pretty much lost everything. Not to mention the fact that he was kidnapped at the age of 6 and bred to be a super soldier and completely isolated from the outside world.
