Rip-off Britan (again)
Game are the only company in the UK that will be stocking the limited and Ghost editions of Destiny. The following is a conversation with a customer advisor for Game (UK). The only edit is that my real name has been changed to my Bungie profile name.

Hi, at the time of writing, 1 British pound is worth 1.71 US Dollars. This means that In the US gamers are paying the equivalent of £87.50 in British money for the Ghost Edition of Destiny. However what we actually pay is £149.99 which the equivalent of a whopping $257.10. This is a mark-up of a massive £62.49 or 41.6% compared to what Americans will pay. Why is this?

We are the only retailing within the UK selling this product and this price is directed at the UK market.

We have not increased the price, this is the price we are selling the product for here in the UK.

You need to know where these things are manufactured, what types of laws and requirements there are for shipping, selling, and manufacturing products outside the country they are made in. Those shipped outside the country probably have to go through customs, and have different boxes checked off when it comes to materials used to manufacture those items. There are tariffs as well, so someone has to pay for them. So I think getting on this employees case over this was not appropriate.

Basically what I got out of the article is it is more expensive to do business in the UK and the US market is more competitive.

Now imagine this. Im in Portugal. GE is 200 euros. Minimum wage is 450. Standard games 70 euros. Still want the GE. When Im dead the money wont be worth sh**. At least with Destiny I can enjoy life while Im allowed. Thank you bungie. Fu** the retailers. :)

1 ReplyKudos to you for doing this. Is this a text or voice chat transcript? However, in defence of Brett (who had some weak points, as he knows their position isn't wholly justifiable), as an employee of the organisation, he isn't the one with the power to effect any kind of change. I hope he does pass on his transcript or voice recording to his bosses, but they may only use it as a training session to better justify their price hikes. I would hope that actually, due to the flak Game are getting about global price differentials it would make them think harder and keep prices fairer though. It would help if Bungie or marketing relations at Activision told Game to reduce the price a little more to be more comparable with the US price, but the UK branch will justify it with talk of 'VAT' and higher living costs.

5 RepliesI live in the UK & I ordered 3 t-shirts & 1 zip up jacket. Subtotal : $119.96 USD Shipping : $30.50 USD Total : $150.46 USD I ordered this on 17th of June Today is 11th of July & the post man gave me a card. The card says "Unfortunately we can't deliver your item because there is a fee to pay". I have to now go to my Local sorting office (2.5 miles away with no car) to pick up my parcel which I have to pay £22.16 for before they will let me take it home. Between this, the over-priced Special Editions, the EU Platform Selection not working, and the UK PSN Store not stocking the Digital Guardian Edition... I am really having a bad experience with Bungie & all other companies connected with my problem. At least I have a PS4, because not having the Alpha & getting only 4 days Beta would have been to much. It's just aswel I really want this game, otherwise I would be pretty tempted to leave the Bungie community :(

1 ReplyEdited by Harmony: 7/11/2014 6:30:27 PMThey always do this in the UK say Ghost edition costs $149.99 they just put £149.99 and if they propley converted the difference it would be about £87. that's rip off UK Standard games in the usa cost $40 brand new and they just give us £40 that's really about $29. £149.99 = $256 So that's like usa gamers paying $256 for the Ghost edition.

I have just done the same as you and received a 'neither me not my superiors have an answer to this question at this time' response while I am not let down by GAME. As they are selling game at the price given to them by the games supplier I am disappointed in the way this game is being handled (not a reference to the Beta or exclusives merely the games pricing and the pricing of its editions) paying $117 on top of what U.S customers are for no reason is a rip off and while I still eagerly await the game. I still remain disappointed in the blatancy of the fleecing we are receiving.

Best deal I have seen for the limited edition is £79.97 from bestbuy uk. The idiots even have matched the $ for £'s on the dlc aswell!
