So as many of ya'll know progression in Destiny is saved on Bungies dedicated servers rather than on your consoles SQL drive ID. Which means you will be able to carry your progress between both last gen and next gen consoles. Although, cross console generation play in online PVE/PVP won't be supported as explained in the last mail sack (damnit Deej!) we may still be able to salvage a community link between the two. When the game is released and stats are reset on Bnet we can eventually organize our invested clans to work with either generation of consoles. If you want to play with players who have both consoles like myself then you must visit this forum to let others know that you can cooperate on both sides of the coin.
