In crucible last night trying to test out heavy weapon mechanics. I ran a Heavy in Dust--I love playing a walking turret. Not that I can't hold my own in an assault relationship but there is something about destroying people with large caliber weaponry.
That doesn't seem to be the effect with the heavy machine gun in Destiny. I go toe to toe with a fully upgraded, uncommon, hmg and I get -blam!- by a rifle. It takes nearly half the box of rounds to tear someone down--its just sponged up. Meanwhile I'm torn to near death or I died.

Meanwhile if I have the rocket launcher prepped one hit one kill. I can grab heavy ammo and nearly guarantee every shot will earn me another notch on the killboard.

This feels like a balancing issue.
Anyone else have commentary on the two?

The balance comes from the travel time of the rocket. With the machine gun you dont need to lead your target and also stand a chance killing someone a lil ways away who knows your there cause if they see the rocket coming all the have to do is jump outta the way and kill you while you reload
