I personally would rather not have a wipe but if it happens it happens and its whatever but the 3 dumbest reason for why the beta should wipe that I keep hearing are just annoying, her me out.
1-First Day OP- This one is highly stupid considering the fact that everyone one is just worried about getting stomped in the Crucible when over half the community I can guarantee just want to play the actual game explore and grind for gear. Plus you are straight delusional if you don't think dudes are gonna get the game at midnight go home hit lvl 8 in 4 hours or just play all night getting to lvl 14 to roll you in the Crucible at 3 in the afternoon the next day.
2-Its Not Fair For People That Didn't Play The Beta- No its not fair you want Bobby over heres lvl 12 AR to get wiped just cause you couldn't find a way to put down 5 bucks on a game in a years time, plus once again you can get to a decent lvl to hang in the Crucible in all of 4-5 hours get over it.
3-It Ruins The Story Experience- Lmao no it doesn't if you cant remember in a month that your first run of missions led up to the defeat of a giant eyeball named Sepiks Prime than you have issues. I personally will no doubt be able to jump right back in to where I left off if the beta carries over and be happy I didnt have to spend 5 hours doing something I've already done and just immerse myself into gear hunting.
These are 3 dumb reasons I keep hearing, in conclusion either way I'm stoked for the game and really happy with how the beta feels and how fun it is, if it carries over that would be great if it doesn't I'll get over it for sure cause its no big deal but at least come up with better reasons for why it should.
EDIT
Ok so people just don't fully read and cant realize I am honestly not for or against a wipe. Either way I'm gonna play this great game and be happy. I'm just arguing my point against the 3 dumbest reasons why it should wipe in this post, so please quit with the personal attacks with the stand point of "OP wants a Transfer' I know damn well the chances of a wipe are 98% I'm just asking for people to stop regurgitating the same 3 damn reasons. Bump...to keep content relevant

Everyone that is asking for stuff to carry over to release needs to take a step back. (and their heads about out of their asses). A beta is NOT an Early Access or Trial version of the final game. You are NOT entitled to keep anything acquired during a beta because the purpose of a beta is to help the developer test a feature-complete version of the game that may or may not need large-scale testing that a developer cannot do on its own. Bungie is under no obligations to even offer a beta to us (or anyone). It's a privilege first and foremost, and we should be grateful for the opportunity to help shape the game in a meaningful way. Everyone that is complaining about the lack of content or not being able to keep stuff that have acquired are simply the epitome of spoiled, self-entitlement.

i just want my lvl 20 hand cannon everything else can be wiped
-
You gotta factor in Trophies & Achievements as well. After all, what if there was something you could only do once, but if you transferred, and already did it, the system may not pick up on that, since it was from the beta etc Their not a big deal to me, but some people act like they hit gold with them things, lol
-
1) Same level doesn't mean equal in power since you could still upgrade your subclass. Someone can hit level 8 in 4 hours but they will still at a disadvantage because people had 36+ extra hours upgrading their subclass and getting those extra abilities. 2) The fact that you remembered the plot of the Strike mission rather than the actual story mission (the Hive is about to invade earth) proves how horrible memory retention can be when time passes.

Edited by Forky: 7/25/2014 8:06:27 PMI'm too exhausted to write a coherent response so I'll do bullet points and you can guess at what I mean. 1. Vanguard Armory Useless 2. Story missions might Change 3. Skip Old Russia Altogether 4. Old Russia Explore might change 5. Collectibles might change location/amount

The game is going to be wiped regardless of what anyone says, here's why; also note that I speak from experiencing many closed and open alphas/betas. First of all, any kind of progression is necessary to keep players in the game, progression is seen in all games, but it is most obvious in MMORPGs. Although Destiny is not an MMORPG it is heavily influenced by the gameplay systems used by MMOs, therefore the same exact reason to wipe is seen. And that reason is the fact that the alpha and beta test players represent the minority in the grand scheme of things in addition to the fact that things are still being tweaked and developed correctly for launch. Weapons are added/removed, economy and drop rates are tweaked, enemies are rebalanced, entire areas are added, etc. Many things can happen before the development is officially complete, thus a wipe is entirely necessary not to just be fair but to avoid any problems, inconsistencies, or bugs. Developing such a huge game is a nightmare when it comes to bugs and keeping things smooth, so keeping a small minority "happy" is stupid and could be detrimental to the final build. In all the games I've tested, zero let players keep their progress and carry it over into the final build, this is a practice in video game development that will likely never be changed because of practical reasons; the developers don't care about loyalty or fan appeal too much besides the general PR stuff, they just want to get the game tested (in the case of closed testing) or promoted (in the case of open testing).

Bungie's engineer Roger Wolfson has already made it clear. “Let’s say Destiny 2 [and] Destiny 3 are out, and we have new players joining the fun. [They] want to play those new games alongside those who have been playing Destiny from the beginning. [We want to ensure] they won’t feel like they’re four years behind. And then, if they want to, they’ll be able to go back and pick up the old content on their same character. So we’ve done a lot of planning for how that’s going to work, to not make people feel like they have years worth of levelling up to do.” What this means, players whom have not played the Beta does not have any disadvantages for have a late start. Hence, you know what this means ;)

I just say legendary/exotic weps and armor should only be carried over. Since people need to be level 20 to use them.
-
They should wipe. If not all the time at level 8 I spent playing was a waste. Also level 8 isn't impossible to get to in like two hours.
-
I am looking forward to the wipe, I can fix my character and make them better looking for when they are at the tower. But character creation is the best thing I can think of for why the wipe is good. There are also Trophies/Achievements that will be earned throughout the game, I am sure there are some you would missed if your Character didn't get wiped like Defeating Sepiks Prime- I bet you get a trophy/ Achievement for that.

Edited by Bound Delta: 7/25/2014 1:28:26 AMSince 7pm the day the beta released on Xbox I have gotten 4 hours of sleep and have played nothing but destiny my Titan is heavily skilled up and it would be depressing to see all that time wasted I don't want to see all my achievements like a 16 kill streak and a quintuple kill in the same life all wiped away

There MUST be a transfer
-
Today when I went to the postmaster I got an item called "strange coin" all it says is that its 'rare currency' not sure if everyone else got this but the point is that they gave me this item as a reward for beta so it makes no sense to wipe it once the full game is released, I'm not sure what will happen but just the fact that they are giving away items in beta hints towards the idea that you'll be able to keep the stuff you've already acquired, guess we'll see. . .
-
I totally agree. But in addition. If they find us op now. Just wait. After a couple days of grinding I'll be right back to where I am now with the addition of rare gear. Lol It's the people who don't spend as much time grinding their gear but want to be equivalent to those who do and that's just not how it works...
-
I personally think it should be wiped, It'd be nice to grind without hitting a wall and being able to play into level 9 non stop and think of the moon.
-
You.I like you.
-
I think we should have a choice. Either start fresh from the beginning or continue with what we acquired in Beta. Therefore everyone would be happy and no one would complain that they missed a slight different story start missions or that they had to start all over doing the same stuff.

I'm with ya brother. I LOVE the game and will play No matter what. I laughed at the reasons people keep wanting a wipe and you nailed how frail their arguments are. I'd like to add on to 2 of them: 1- People getting ahead. Guess what folks the world has time zones. So if you live in Pacific US and buy the game at midnight, come home and play you will run into people that might be level 8 because UK players have been playing for 8 hours. BLAM. Get over it. In a day we will have level 20s. 2- not everyone got to play the beta. Well now that's a giant Fail argument. BETA IS OPEN TO EVERYONE !! So I don't care either way. It will save me some time if they don't wipe it all, if not I've got vacation in September. I'll be back to where I am in a few fun hours.
-
These reasons are so dumb lol. Anyone couldve pre ordered and gotten beta access. you didnt even have to put money down if you preordered on amazon. secondly, the beta is now open to all via in console download. so the whole theyve got an advantage thing is garbage. you already pointed out the other two. I really want to keep my progress, especially the two amazing blue weapon and armor items ive found (cant use but hey!) but if it does wipe i wont cry about it (much) and am still going to play this game. the great graphics, controls, and story so far are just that. GREAT! its really nice to know there are still companies out there who will put out such an amazing product and truelly care about their gamers.
-
Betas are just tests it is extremely rare you will keep anything from a beta... it's just the nature of the beast! Also technically this could be a standalone build which ultimately wont be compatible with the complete product which I believe is probably the case since Bungie calls it a beta build an awful lot and also they don't want to put a lot out there for data miners to find.
-
I think iron banner stuff should transfer nothing else in my opinion
-
should* transfer?
-
Im for it for one reason, we are playing a great game that is broken for the test. They are looking at their algorithms to see what is the intended drop rate vs what the game is dishing out. I have a funny feeling the lvl ?? are levels 7 or 8s. Earth is the starter zone, not end game challenges and should not have legendary gear. Unless we're knighted by Merlin who gives us a class item of honor for completeing his challenges, StarGate reference. The one thing I hope is they dont nerf the slide and shotty technique. Not good at it yet like you dudes, but its fun when I pull it off. Im out Gs
-
I think they will wipe it because the leveling was accelerated for the beta so we can test more stuff. If they kept the leveling the same in the full as in the beta, people would be at level 20 by day 2, and that doesn't make for a long-lasting game or franchise
