Oh it was there all right, you just couldn't get at it. In The World's Grave (I think that's the section) there is a door with a detected enemy on the scanner on the other side where you can feel the controller subtly shake and hear the thumping of it walking. That was a very nice touch on Bungie's part, that and the jiggling chains, very spooky.
