This may be a dumb question but how to you post within a thread on the app? I figured out how to reply to others posts but can't make a standalone one

No worries, just click on the creator's original post and the menu will pop up below. Click on the arrow and you'll see "comment" on the top. If you're going to reply to a specific post within the thread it will say "reply."
