So, looks like America isn't the only country where the wrong person can get access to a gun.
14 people have been killed, and 3 seriously wounded in a shock attack on a caravan park in South Australia, in the early hours of Sunday, the 3rd of August.
The small town of Hawker, which lies approximately 365 km (227 mi) north of the state's capital, Adelaide, was hit hard on Sunday morning, when a lone gunman entered the Big 4 Caravan park at 6:00, and opened fire on several tents and caravans, killing multiple holidaymakers while they slept. The local authorities were immediately notified, and managed to apprehend the assailant before he could do further damage.
3 survivors were given medical treatment on site, and were later airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for surgery, and all are expected to make full recovery from their injuries.
The gunman, Daniel Sanders, 17, was taken into custody by the SA Police, and the investigation into how he managed to obtain a firearm has been launched. "We are under the impression that he has stolen the rifle from a licensed farmer," reported Chief Inspector Lucas Warren. "The weapon in question is legal to own in Australia, provided the owner has a license, and we don't suspect any illegal weapons smuggling at the present moment."
"(Daniel) Sanders has been uncooperative in our interviewing so far , but we have concluded that this massacre stems from his frustration at being unable to find employment, missing out on his favorite band, Iron Maiden, when they performed in Australia, as well as a dissatisfying sex life," Warren continued. "We have contacted his parents, and they are on the way down from Brisbane. They told us that he had left on a camping trip with his friends 7 days prior to the shooting, and didn't expect contact with him for another fortnight. They were deeply shocked and saddened by the news."
Television broadcaster Ten network were allowed an interview with the teenager, who was initially unresponsive to questioning, ignoring the camera to listen to his iPod, however, when pressed on the matter of his reasons for the attack by news presenter Sally Pearson, he stated "I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. Come listen to Iron Maiden, maybe with me."
