Weather!
Destiny needs an epic weather system. We had some sick thunder storms in Southeastern Utah today, and it got me thinking. Wouldn't it be amazing to stalk a patrol of Fallen warriors through the jungles of Venus during a heavy rainstorm? Visibility would be poor, you would be able to see the rain running down your visor. Water would be dripping from the trees and buildings. It would all be very atmospheric, no?
Here's another one. You get caught in a blinding sandstorm on the surface of Mars. You can barely see where you are going, when you stumble upon a Cabal unit taking cover in the shell of an old building. You look at them, they look at you. You then proceed to duke it out while you can barely see one another!
Okay, one last scenario. You are exploring the wilds of Earth at night. A menacing thunderstorm proceeds to roll overhead. It becomes quite dark, to the point where you have to use your Ghost's light and periodic flashes of lightning to keep your bearings. Then, as the wind howls through your cloak, Hive start to pour from every crevice. The once familiar landscape is transformed into a dark shadow of fear and darkness. As you struggle to survive, and are about to overwhelmed, you see another light peek over the crest of the hill. Another Guardian! Together you fend off the relentless enemy and retreat back to the safety of the Tower.
I'm just saying, weather would make familiar landscapes feel new, different, and exciting. Everything would become a hundred times more atmospheric and awesome, leaving players craving another chance to have another epic opportunity. If any one else has a cool weather situation you would like to share, feel free to do so! Let's see how many different ideas we can build up!

I'm pretty sure weather has been confirmed. Thought I heard it in an interview.

1 ReplyBump - and amazed I actually found something via Search on here. Had not been able to put my finger on it until recently, but weather is one of the immersive aspects that is desperately needed. Sandstorm on Mars was the one that came to mind first, as well. Acid rain on Venus would be good, as well. Not really much going on where the Moon is involved, and there are no remnants of dead vegetation, like the tree trunks on Mars. Hell, even a "solar storm" that would cause some sort of borealis-effect and maybe throw some static in your HUD?

That would be awesome it would definitely add something a little different to the game. Not sure about in an area/state in particular but s great idea. Only problem would be on planets like Mars where it doesn't rain or anything lol maybe a sandstorm?

BUMP yes this needs to be implemented in the game in all parts! It would honestly give people more incentive to do patrol missions other than searching for materials. And something else the weather would impact, when the "enemy forces are moving against each other" in certain areas. For example, on Mars at spawn area there are Cabal and Vex fighting each other. After a while a while bunch come out with yellow health bars and a war starts. Thats when weather needs to just come down insanely hard and make it that much more epic. Maybe some music too but just something else for them to consider. Perhaps more of those events would be so awesome.

You know what they should add? Special extremely rare events for each planet. Earth would be the northern lights. And you should be able to... Oh my god i need sleep. Ok well, goodnight. At 5:00 in the morning.

This is awesome and should happen and I hope it does, and here is another idea. The main patrol on earth is in old Russia... Why isn't there more snow? I'd love to be running around throwing nova bombs during a blizzard, bad vision and hearing each footstep crunch under fresh snow, not to mention using a sniper rifle when all you can see is snow flakes falling in front of your scope

You see , you have a good imagination using different scenarios with the weather as well but the people at bungie prob had similar ideas but I think they got lazy and knew the game was allready a hit so why bother second . They were to focused on pvp rather than the game story it's self . Ideas like yours are gold and I've had a few myself . Such as why is there not chase missions on your speeder chasing down fallen bandits were you duke it out on the speeder , why money and a lazy unimaginative company !

7 RepliesYa know that's one thing I felt let down about, when news first started surfacing about destiny they said it would have a fully functioning weather system in game, as it stood all my time in the beta time of day never even changed for me, I am still hoping this was just because it was beta and the things promised still happen, but if it doesn't screw it the game us amazingly beautiful as is, it would be cool though :)

I couldn't have said it better. Plus, it'd be nice to see some of that next-gen horsepower being used for something other than lighting.
