Inferior console in terms of hardware. Plus the exclusives and good relationship with Indies. Microsoft hasn't really shown they care about the gamers until recently when Sony has shown it from the start.

  • Like when they decided to opt out of EA Access without asking customers lol. Sony stuck to their guns and played it safe, Xbox tried to change the game. Didn't work out how they hoped, so they decided to follow customer feedback.

I see your point in regards to Sony choosing not to let people get EA Access, but I couldn't care less about it. I will be optimistic, and focus on the facts. Which are that the hardware is superior, the console is still catered more to gamers, and I like the exclusives more.

In the area of hardware, xbox routed 10% of the kinects power to assist with processing. Which is why you see the headlines of Destiny running at 1080p 60fps now on Xbox. That is why I argue that they are almost the same machine. (Although I love the PS4's screen shot feature!)

  • Even that extra 10% does not make it on par with the ps4. Also, Destiny will be 30fps on all consoles.

  • lol, you are really clinging to this "superior hardware" mindset... If we were talking about like a PS3 vs a high-end gaming PC, I could see your point, but we're essentially talking about 2 mid-range PC's with slightly different setups. If you wanna cling to the numbers game, and tout "superior" hardware based on hardware specs, that's cool, but the fact is, the end results of games on X1 vs PS4, are not night and day - they are often negligible, and other times small. Look at Destiny - a huge game, yet playing at the exact same resolution and framerate on both consoles.

I didn't say the differences were substantial. Just that there is a difference. Destiny might be the same on ps4 and Xbox one but other games such as Diablo 3 and the Witcher are not. And if the xbone didn't give up the Kinect, Destiny might not have been the same on the Xbox as ps4. Gddr5 ram versus ddr3 ram. Do not deny the facts.

  • I'm not denying anything, I'm only stating that regardless if the PS4 has superior hardware, the end results are what matter, and they don't for a second, at least for me, differ so much as to warrant me purchasing a PS4 over an X1 because of it. If hardware is so important to you, why aren't you gaming on PC, where the differences are substantial?

  • I just want to get my money's worth and in terms of hardware, I'm getting more for my money with ps4. Even if the difference isn't as big or not. It's still there. And no that wasn't the only reason why I got it. Yes pc is more powerful, but also more expensive. Also with a console, for $400, all games will be optimized for it since all ps4 are the same and any game that's made for ps4 will always work. With pc it's not always like that. You have to check the system requirements and upgrade if needed.
Yes pc is more powerful, but also more expensive
Yeah, but you would be getting your money's worth in terms of hardware, not to mention the levels of versatility a PC gives you that a console can't even begin to compete with.
You have to check the system requirements and upgrade if needed.
But at least the option to upgrade is there. You are stuck with the same box, for potentially 10 yrs... I understand that I am in the same boat with my X1, but I'm not the one going on about justifying my purchase based around hardware specs. Out of curiosity, how familiar are you with PC's? I've been playing on them for over 15 years, and building them for around 5. I hope you're not one of those console players who wants to share his opinions on PC's, when they know nothing about them.

I rather have my console be relevant for 10 years without any upgrades than be constantly upgrading my pc, to which I already invested $1000. And yes, pc is way more versatile than a console. To be honest I don't even compare them cause of it. Pc's belong in their own realm. Well I'm building my own pc just need the gpu and graphics card and I use to play the original dota before my power supply scrapped out on my old pc. Does that make me qualified?

I just built my new rig like 2 yrs. ago, and the rig I have before that went 6 yrs. without an upgrade.

The extra 10% makes it able to handle games with the same level of graphics, and that's what matters. If there's still a small gap; it's definitely not as big as before. And is that so? I actually hadn't heard that lol. Why are they doing that? Smoother gameplay? Easier on the servers?

  • There is still a small gap but yes it's not as big as before. I think they are doing that because of the versions for ps3 and 360. They want the same frame rate all around.

  • well how small does the gap need to get before you stop citing that there's still a difference? This is problem I have with members of the PS4 camp when it comes to "superior hardware," because even if both consoles produced the exact same visuals and framerates for all games across the board, they would still cite spec numbers and claim the PS4 has better hardware. They are more interested in the numbers, rather than what they actually amount to.

  • You know what, if Xbox was the one with better ram instead of ps4, I would still acknowledge the facts. If the gap between hardware exists, and still leads to lesser versions of games on one console compared to the other, then I will always point it out.

But there comes a time when you have to ask, "what's the point?" or "who cares?" Like I said, if each console was pumping out identical games, yet the PS4 had better hardware, who cares? The end result are the same. Even when the gap was bigger, PS4 was not pumping out games that lived up to the hype of what "experts" were claiming based on specs. If Xbox was putting out games that looked and/or performed better than those on PS4, yet PS4 still had the spec-wise better hardware, what would you be saying then? From what I can see, MS seems to be planning more for things to come. There console may be weaker, but MS looks to be prepared more for things to come, be it DX12 or the inevitability of cloud computing becoming more popular and used, they seem to have thought of these things when designing their console. Their hardware is infinitely more customized than that of Sony's, which seems to have a more "off the shelf" approach. That level of customization has to be for something. Sony seems to taken the here and now approach, producing a console that packs a punch from the start. How this will fair for them 10 yrs. from now, we'll have to see.

  • I was just giving counterpoints to why I don't want to join Xbox. In response to what the original post says. That was all. And yes I wouldn't care either if both put out equal versions of multiplatform games. But they don't.

But they do... Destiny is just one example. No, not every single game is identical, but they do put out identical games. Seeing as hardware seems to be such a prominent point for your purchase, don't you feel a little jipped that not every game is superior on PS4?

  • It only seems prominent because of our discussion. If Xbox was the one that was a bit more powerful than I would still have gone with ps4. Cause of exclusives and how they seem to cater more to gamers.

  • Yea I agree. The last gen consoles are holding the new gen back.

  • The only silver lining I see is that it will be easier on servers. Less lag, which is cool.
