We all know that since 2009, the quality of the live-action Transformers films has been declining. When the trailer for the latest film, Transformers: Age of Extinction went public, people were divided on what to expect; some hoped it would be a big improvement, others thought it was just going to be another unnecessary sequel with another sloppy and confusing plot, racist and sexual humor, more focus on the human characters than the robots, etc. As soon as it hit the theaters, most people (including the critics) seemed to be leaning toward the latter side. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a "rotten" score of 17%, making it lower than Revenge of the Fallen. Being a Transformers fan, though, I had to see what it was like. I had intended to see it just for guilty pleasure purposes, and to do a drinking game (with my water bottle). I did see it, and...
...I actually enjoyed it!
Now before someone goes and activates the "Michael Bay Has Someone's Penis" alarm, I would like to point out that while I thought it was far from a bad film, it was also far from a superb film. Below is a list of my reasons.
-Jack Reynor's subpar dialogue (he has a few good lines, but most of the time he's kind of dorky, especially for a race car driver).
-Stanley Tucci's somewhat over-the-top acting (especially in the third act).
-Aside from engage in battle with Optimus and create new Decepticons, Galvatron does next to nothing in the film.
-Dat runtime, dough.
-Certain jokes tend to go nowhere.
Those are only my minor cons. My bigger problems with the film are:
-Optimus Prime's menacing dialogue (He is not supposed to be a badass executor, he's supposed to be a wise and caring leader. I'm pretty sure Peter Cullen [his voice actor] wasn't too happy with his lines either).
-The Dinobots having not as much screen time as we had hoped (They're fan-favorite characters for G-d's sake!).
Those are the only problems I had; other than that, just the usual Michael Bay schlock. All in all, I actually thought it was pretty good, and it was the sequel I've been waiting for. The situations were understandable, the Autobots seemed to have more of a sense of character to them, Lockdown was the best villain in the series so far. But is it honestly that much worse than Revenge of the Fallen or Dark of the Moon? The latter movies were obviously so-so, but I honestly think Age of Extinction is the best we've had since the first movie. It obviously had some flaws, but not enough to get in the way of enjoyment, imo at least.
What are your thoughts, Flood? Transformers: Age of Extinction: Worse than the last two movies or better? Still bad or good? Post in the thread below!

Bayformers films aren't meant to be appreciated with any depth. They are called popcorn flicks for a reason, you go watch the shooty shooty boom boom and eat some popcorn and that's it.
-
First one was bearable, the rest I couldn't watch.
-
Can Michael Bay stop sticking his schlong into every piece of our childhood? FFS Let it die, then give it to Nolan or Abrams to reboot in 8 years. They'll put out the best god damned transformers movie yet.

They're all bad .

Yes. At least RotF has some really kickass fight scenes; AoE's were just boring. They also executed Galvatron and the Dinobots horribly. Their two biggest new concepts and they gave them minor (and short lived) roles. Lockdown should have died halfway through the movie so Galvatron could get the screen time he deserved. He also could have had more of a menacing quality. The movie was also incredibly slow; and Mark and Kelsey were the only decent human actors in it too.

Let's just say Michael Bay will leave an explosively bad taste in your mouth.

Best one of the 4 IMO. Sam was an annoying baby. Why must he scream, "OPTIMUS!!!!" I mean, he's a 20 foot or so transforming robot that can fly and you're worried he might get hurt? There wasn't too much language and no unnecessary suggestive content. Best villain too. DotM was, awesome at first, but then I realized how many times Optimus would blow/smash/cut/slash a head off. It got old and repetitive. I would go to see it again.

I still need to see it. I think people need to step back and understand what the transformers movies are. Grading Transformers on the same scale as movies like Inception is like judging a fish by its ability to walk on land. It's not about the writing and the plot, Transformers never was. It's about action, and fighting robots. So far I'd say that they've done that pretty well.

I liked the movie but it doesn't compare to other movies.Guardians of the Galaxy anyone?
-
you don't go see transformers for story or meaningful characters, you go see it for badass special effects and the actual transformers
-
Heres how i rate the series(best to worst) 1. Transformers 2. Dark of the Moon 3. Age of Extinction 4. Revenge of Fallen
-
Allow me to give my review, it wasn't too bad.
-
Bar the stupid love story between the racer and the daughter, plus the bearded robot that uses a cigar, plus Lockdown's stupidity not realising the autobots took his ship, and some other things, it was okay. I'm not watching it again.
-
Revenge of the Fallen was bad, but it was at least coherent. Age of Extinction was a -blam!-ing mess that had no comprehensible story, terrible characters (Except for Fatbot) and obnoxiously uninteresting action scenes.
-
If you haven't seen the film, I'd advise not clicking on the spoiler.
It was basically BOOOOOOMM RAWRRR BOOM BOOM PEW PEW PEW KILL ALL HUMANS BOOM BOOM FORCED HUMOR BOOOOOOM BOOM BOOM PEW PEW PLOT HOLES BOOM KILL AUTOBOTS FOR NO REASON BOOM BOOM EXPLOSION RAAAAWWRR OPTIMUS PRIME BECOMES A KNIGHT BOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM RAAAAAAWWAARRRR
They were all pretty good
-
Better than the previous but still only a 2/10
-
Age of Extinction was awesome.
-
I liked it becuase in the beginning Optimus Prime looked like he was from G1.
-
-
Yes, it was.
-
Of people think the plots are confusing then I am wondering how old these people are that are giving you this information, that you are basing this topic on.
