Proximity chat should always be turned on, and you can't be heard unless you are within extreme close range like 1 or 2 meters away. Since there will be no matchmaking for raids in Destiny then proximity chat is the next best thing, be able talk to people in the tower outside your fire team to get more to join up would be a good thing, as well as in open world maps you can warn others when they are in danger, since explore maps can be entered solo, having a proximity chat would be an asset.
It would be even better for pvp because i love being able trash talk with people i kill or get killed by that's in close range

Trash tAlk is a big reason to vote no.

the core of all compitition is trash talk, its what drives us to do better and be better. When i play games with proximity chat and i get killed and they start trash talking, it drives me to beat them and show that they were wrong.

No its not

Guess you have not played many competitive games then.
-
Yes i have. More than a ten year old like yourself
-
I have now discovered you are right. Trash talk equal good. You stink =p #sarcasm
-
well i think at 35 i'm older then you are
-
Actually you arent :) but youve actually proved my point. Trash talk is ugly and takes away from the game. It generates heat and no light. It breaks community spirit. It is petty and poor sportsmanship

done in the right way it can generate a competitive spirit
