Are those supposed to be Phobos and Deimos, the pathetic potato-shaped moons of Mars? Don't bullshit me Bungie. We all know Phobos moves 6 feet closer to Mars per century - and since your 'Destiny' game is set 700 years in the future, that would mean it would have moved only a mere 42 feet closer to the surface of Mars (not even a marginal dent in the 5826 mile orbit there is today). And don't even get me started about Deimos. That moon is supposed to be a speck of dust in the sky, and moving away from Mars at that.
Christ on a bike, if you're going to make a game about space, at least get the orbital bodies of your planets right.

The traveler moons you. Rebuttal?

Well, "it was a time of miracles" and space magic and the Traveler apparently adjusted the gravity on the Moon and made Mercury a habitable garden world. Also, it's called "artistic liberty". I'm surprised you're this concerned about the appearance of Mars' moons, and not the fact that Earth looked 10 times larger in the Moon's skybox than it would if you were actually viewing it from the moon. But that's more "dramatic" and in their eyes... looks cooler. And I have to agree. I mean, have you seen the HD images from the Curiosity rover? Mars seems to be a pretty damn boring place.

Edited by MosherNonMosher: 8/11/2014 8:07:52 PMMaybe some sort of collision happened to change phobos' orbit drastically. It could even be a new moon due to some unlikly circumstance. Its space dude anything is possible

Beautiful skybox > realism. Bungie has already said this.

A game where a robot brings me back from the dead to fight aliens isn't realistic. I'm canceling my pre-pre

Ur mah gurd!!!!!!! You've convinced me! I must cancel my pre-order at once! This is outrageous, how could they do something as despicable as this?
-
yeah bungie your game NEEDS to be a realistic production of 700 years into the future, dammit.
-
I concur! Jolly good deduction Simmons. I shall make this scoundrel you call Bungie see swift reform for their misdeed. To think such dubious acts under our very noses, I for one am appalled!
-
Somewhere in NASA the white coats are rustling. I laugh because deep down I'm slightly ticked Bungie took liberties with the representation of our solar system and its authenticity.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson! Is it really you!?

Traveler changed their orbits with space magic.

Edited by Mars: 8/11/2014 7:34:47 PMShut your filthy hooker mouth, you scungy little armchair cosmologist. My children are beautiful and special, no matter what shape they are. If you can't play nice, I'll tell Gaia to cancel your subscription to Popular Mechanics.

The Traveler changed the gravity on the Moon, Venus, and Mars to mimic that of Earth's...It is reasonable to assume that the increase in gravitational pull on Deimos and Phobos would bring them closer to the planet. Not to mention Bungie wanted to create not the most realistic images of out solar system, but more fantastical, mirroring the images of what you imagine what the planets would be like...Sweeping dunes of red sand on Mars (much more red than Mars actually is), the dust getting everywhere; Venus having a humid, tropical, and volcanic environment. The yellow cloudy sky, brighter because it is closer to sun. This isn't just a Sci-Fi, it is a Sci-Fi Fantasy, and the planets reflect this.

Bungie are amateurs, they can't beat halo on legendary

Bungie messed up everything.

"Traveller magic"

This bothers you but not the quantum mechanics of everything? Or are we suppose to suspend belief? *it is fiction. just saying* You nerds are slipping...

Edited by Der_Peevmeister: 8/11/2014 7:04:25 PMOh wow, that picture is beautiful! Well done sky writers, great job Bungie! Thanks for posting the pic, Sandwich! =D

Beautiful image that.

Space magic. Traveller did it.

No those are my Sides, They achieved interstellar orbit from the idiocy of this post

For the most part, I tend to agree with you. I'm all about getting right the science in science fiction. That being said, Bungie addressed a long time ago that they aren't going for strict realism here. They are doing a lot with the style of the world which contradicts science, but...you know...I'm okay with that.
