So what do you think?

Microsoft will be lucky if they break even after the money they paid for the exclusivity deal.
-
Polygon is just filled with shit holes they are Xbox fanboys no questions look what they give playstation exclusives the gave the last of us a 7 which I highly disagree.
-
What might make even more sales is that if they either create or buy new IP's instead of wasting money on timed shit. Halo 3 sold far more systems than what CoD and Skyrim DLC did and what this game will.

I'm not sure why any of this would be a surprise. Aside from the author's magic math for console sales, of course this is all about making money. Clearly Square Enix felt they made more money (or spent less on development and marketing) by taking the deal. Games cost a lot to make. Gamers don't want to pay for it. Games have cost the same for going on ten years. That's crazy. We wonder why developers and publishers work like crazy to come up with creative ways to generate revenue.

I think Ben Kutchera is a Microsoft shill. This is simple math. Let's say that the XB1 and PS4 had equal sales. You're looking at half the market now and losing half your possible sales. Could Microsoft putting the spotlight give it more sales than it otherwise would have on the Xbox One? Perhaps. But will that make up for losing the PS4 install base? No. Microsoft can't make up for millions of lost sales. Now as for the profit part? Depends how much Microsoft paid Square Enix.

MS should throw money at new titels, not at multiplats

Link fixed!

I had to read that a couple times to try to figure out how it makes sense. Either way it sucks, my daughter was excited about that game after E3. I guess we'll have to wait. I don't see myself buying a XB for quite a long time yet. Honestly, I'm not even sure when this new Tomb Raider is suppose to release.

"The very real sadness ... is real." Ben Kuchera should learn to proofread.

Edited by BannedLemön: 8/13/2014 6:33:28 PM
Tomb Raider's Xbox exclusivity likely means more sales,
-blam!-ing kek How would it mean more sales if the first game sold a lot less on both 360 and Xbone than it did on PS3 and PS4? And the only profit they'd get is from the fat check MS waved in their faces. Squeenix complained about how the first reboot game didn't sell as well as they hoped, so how would making it an "exclusive" get them more sales? >Polygon They're basically in MS' pocket. I think they're full of shit. Are they really so deluded, that they think Tomb Raider is a -blam!-ing console mover?

Edited by nao: 8/13/2014 7:26:25 PMDepends on how the PC and PS players take it I suppose. Voting with your wallet and all that. Also depends on the quality of the game. And how fat MS's check was in comparison to potential sales lost. In short no one knows at this point. Including Square. They neatly avoid Uncharted 4 tho. So there will be less competition when they eventually bring it over. Not sure if telling the majority of people who bought the previous game to completely -blam!- off is the best way to go about increasing profits. But I'm not a CEO and don't work for Polygon so what do I know. The thing I don't understand is why MS is wasting money on this when its not going to move a lot of consoles for them.

I suspect most people will just read the title and come here to complain, but it does make more sense if you frame it in terms of ROI instead of sales. I'm not a big fan of Ben Kuchera though. It seems like all he's brought to Polygon since they hired him is stuff meant to rile people up.

Praise MS.

The game has been confirmed with a timed exclusivity. It might boost Xbox for a while, but once that exclusive status ends... it won't matter.
