I will say that the post was effective in getting my attention. Thus, it's a pretty fair bet that the trolls copping the thread noticed it for the same reason and are just trying to take advantage of the visibility. ( I guess that's obvious, but... eh.) If they put out their own information and it was even slightly appealing, they wouldn't have to do that. It's a credit to the group. : )
