I'll be honest, I love shotguns, but in Destiny they have the have the effective range of a cough, or a sneeze at best. Weird analogy, I know. I'm just wondering if I should keep them for boss battles.

Ya as far as pvp is concerned the sniper is far superior. Anyone can shotgun/melee so that is good for beginners. But pve is a different beast. Pve i think its more important to have balance in your loadout depending on your playstyle. For instance if im carrying a scout rifle. I tend to carry a fusion rifle or shotgun as my special.
