Steve Downes has openly stated he wants Chief to die a hero's death.
If that's going to happen though, it needs to be to stop the Precursor threat.

Screw Downes, John gave up his life at age 6 to fight. He deserves peace. His death would never be able to live up to expectations, thus, he needs to fade from existence.

I don't think he can have a normal life after all he's been through unfortunately.

Maybe, but he needs to try. He's changing. He's on the run. I think he's finally going to break when DILDACT KILLS BLUE TEAM in issue 9. Either way, by Halo 5, John is out of -blam!-s to give to the UNSC.
