Kinda ashamed that I went through a strange phase, to distract myself from unfortunate life events, where I thought way too much about this. The system has little real application, beyond being able to appreciate that people are not all motivated by the same things -- which should be obvious! In fact, I would say the system has the potential to do more harm than good, as people, rather than developing their empathy or self-knowledge, seek to try and understand themselves and others through a very restricted framework. It's okay to have a bit of fun with, but don't give it too much thought.

The original creators of the test thought that a knowledge of personality preferences would help women who were entering the industrial workforce to identify jobs "most comfortable and effective" for them. The same principle applies for men. In fact, I remember taking the test for the first time in Highschool Sociology class around the time I started working my first job. I already had a hunch I was unsuited for most conventional jobs, and the test confirmed that. My personal experiences in the workplace have taught me that going against my strong tendency of introversion, as an example, can be hazardous to my health. Working in a retail environment, where I had to interact with countless people every day, left me feeling drained and took more out of me than heavy manual labor. So for me, I think the test has only proven its usefulness as time goes on.
