Really think this is a very good article. At first, I was skeptical about the no matchmaking for raids issue, but the more I've thought about it, the more I am excited to try to figure out these raids with other committed Destiny players and not rely upon matchmaking services that wind you up with randos who quit, give up, or decide it's more fun to hog resources/guns/kills or prank teammates than accomplish the objective. I've played a number of good Exctinction games on COD Ghosts with random matchmaking, but if the raids in Destiny are as hard as they are saying, it's not going to work with random matchmaking. And I have to say, I think this article makes a great point about why that's a good thing.

I was just like you. Skeptical at first, then the more I read and thought about it I came around. That, plus the no map marker aspect of raiding, makes it all seem much more heavy and real.
