What does this mean, "Retailers will break street date. Our servers won’t."

Edited by Sky Sweeper: 8/23/2014 2:36:09 PMServers will be live when you pick up your copy - as long as you put it in your system at 12:01 YOUR time. That tells me thru are spinning up servers gradually the day before.

Everytime something launches there is always a retailer that releases early. Most claim accident or lack of attention to detail. Most stores will have the game in the back storage around 3 to 5 days before the release. So breaking street date is... store receive new shipment on the 3rd. Employees log the shipment and start putting product out on shelf. By pure accident store stocks shelf with Destiny on the 5th...store just broke street date by 4 days. Also online companies break street date fairly often, they will ship with plenty of time for arrival by the 9th, no doubt we will see post that Bob got his ghost edition on the 6th or the 7th, through the mail.

It seems like you have it figured out... Can you please elaborate the time when i will be able to play if I'm central time?... Is that 00:00 or 2am? Thank you in advanced! :)

So i have thought about what was said. Retailers will stick to time zones our servers won't. Good news for us, they will not be putting any extra strain on hardware trying to maintain a timezone lock out. There are various ways to do this and all would involve temporary measures that would just add moving pieces to the release. Each moving piece is just one more risk for failure so they are minimizing the risk and keeping it simple. Always a smart move. Here are assumptions, all we have since no hard time has been announced. When you get your copy you can make your gaurdian. Character creation is linked to server so server would have to be on for this to be accomplished. Best case. Midnight of the 9th 1st time zone to hit servers unlock. Digital downloads and hard copy release have access world wide. As time marches on, each time zone for hard copy gets it and they install and play. Those who have access due to retailers breaking street date get to play with all others. Why comment on retailers breaking street date, why state servers will not know time zones? Worst case. They unlock servers at midnight PST. Millions have digital download and 17+ time zones have installed from hard copy. 6.5 million players melt Bungie's ISP and network crashes. Sometime at around 0500 PST network is recovered. Hawaii gets to play at midnight and everyone can join them then. Standard network crash curse follows with Destiny release like so many other games. My plan. Midnight release. Install, nap while installing and patching. Wake up, grab coffee and my vape (caffeine + nicotine = no need for breakfast) start playing. Until Bungie state clearly: "Servers will unlock at xxxx for time zone xxxx." It is all speculation and assumptions. Sorry brother. And I am EST so feel the pain as well. I really hope the kiwi's get to kick this bad boy off.

What about my timezone, I am GMT when will the servers open for me???
-
It means you can have the game today but the servers wont let you play until 1201 YOUR time
-
It means that Bungie's servers will not open until 12am PST. So if I get my game on the east coast at 12am EST I have to wait the 3 hours for it to be 12am PST to play the game. In short, you can get the game when you want but cannot play until 12am PST.

He said it'll be 9/9 somewhere in the world. Retailers won't give out the game until the 9th but somewhere in the world when that time hits the serves go live. So Theoretically speaking.. if you have a copy on the 7th or 8th you could potentially play if you switch your time zone on your console

So, it stands to reason, when GMT clicks over to the 9th (they are also the first possible times zone to herald in the 9th) the severs will go live and then everyone who has the game can begin playing. Your time zone might still be 9/8 but somewhere in the world it will be the 9th.

There we go! Lol so no matter where we are, if you have a copy of the game and it's 9/9 somewhere in the world we can play. Yup! Boss! Lol
-
It is true. He said the retailers won't break street date which is 9/9 but the servers won't know the difference because once they're turned on the game is live Everyone will see lol I'll be EST and playing on the 8th
-
Maybe that's true, I'm not sure why he didn't just give a straight answer. Doesn't affect me though because I don't plan on playing until afternoon to make sure I don't hit any server issues.
-
Exactly what it means.
-
Basically the servers won't go live until september 9(I would guess eastern time or whatever time zone is suppose to release it first on the 9th) even if some retailers let you buy the game early or if amazon delivers it early. until the servers go live,it is a pretty little paperweight that you can't play.
-
It means if you get the game before the release date you won't be able to sign on till 9/9 in your respective time zone probably starting with them PST

1 time cut on for everybody. You can have your copy early, fine. But the shit ain't jumping 'til they give it the juice.
