So I just learnt that in addition to Bungie restricting three full sets of armour, two weapons, three vehicles, an entire multiplayer map and an entire -blam!-ing mission (in which Destiny is in desperate need of) to a single platform, they are also locking away exclusive content in the DLC as well... this is just ridiculous and unacceptable! So, let me get this straight, if you're not playing on Playstation, not only will you not get the entirety of the game after paying full price, you won't even get the entirety of the DLC after paying full price for it either? Any chance of me purchasing Destiny has quickly evaporated.
The more I learn about Destiny, the less I care about it, and the more I learn to despise Bungie. Every single Weekly Update--including this one--is filled with damage control and/ or Deej--or Urk--trying to spin some bullshit on the 7C due to lack of features in Destiny, or to circumvent disappointment. Bungie is now very insidious, which is a far cry from what I would have said about them during the Halo era. I mean, come on, I know that you guys are gonna give me hate (again), but do you honestly not see how bullshit some of this stuff is? Hell, I'm even talking to Playstation fans, while you guys aren't being negatively affected by this as much as Xbox fans are, can you not see that some of the promises are quickly starting to form into blatant lies?
Some of you are going to pass this off as trolling because of how vocal I am about my disappointment, but I really am finding it hard to believe that I am the only one who can see this...
To everyone who is calling me an Xbot, bashing the Xbox One, telling me that I don't like Destiny because I suck at it, or are just hurling tactless insults, congratulations in being a shining example of what I have to look forward to if I ever do decide to play Destiny. The 7C is now a festering cesspit. The original members who operate under the bounds of logic and reason are in the decline or are just overshadowed by the incredible number of idiots; for every reasonable comment--in which I respect greatly--there are two moronic ones.
If you're reading this and are one of the members of the community who had a reasonable discussion with me, I thank you. You give me hope that the 7C and gaming as a whole aren't doomed.
Edit: I will not be replying from here on out. My endeavour to voice my concerns and outrage was successful from the moment that I clicked 'post'. I have no intentions of arguing with anyone in the comments section below.
But its TIMED. Eventually Xbox will get access to it. Sony gave Activision a crap ton of money in return for time exclusives. Sony did this to help sell PS4s. If someone offered you a bunch of money for something that ultimately helps them sell a product then you'd be a fool not to accept it. The dlc that Xbox is getting isn't void of story missions or strikes, PS players just get a few more. Its just business and I'll say it again, if you are that bothered by it, don't buy Destiny.
^^^ this guy gets it. Listen, I'm an xbox gamer. I've played on the Xbox for 8 years. And even earlier playing on other peoples consoles. And Xbox has been SO fortunate that we have gotten access to a lot of content first before PS. Do we even need to mention Call of Duty? We've gotten everything first for years on big name titles. Destiny will change the face of FPS on next gen gaming! There is years of content that will come out with this game. So who am I to care if PS players get things first?! It's not like it's cross platform where PS will have the advantage. We may not get it all first BUT we will get it eventually! At least we will be getting it! It really is business. Sony put out the money.. So let them have it! I'm not one to start a console war. We will all have guardians on launch day. And that's good enough for me. Xbox or Playstation. We're a community of gamers. It's time we start acting like it.
-
Really my biggest problem is that i've never cared about a game's content like this before, other than Halo. Other dlc's in titles like COD just didn't do anything for me. This game is going to be great and i want to experience as much of it as everyone else can :( however i do not know if i will even get to play it as often as i'd like because i am enlisting soon.... so.... really sucks. But my country needs me more than a videogame does

Edited by Rory Mercury IX: 8/25/2014 7:25:53 PMwell i was planing on move to PS4 but money and my friends are still on x360, so this dose sting, deej if your reading this give the PS players their do's, but don't forget who got you here, share the love! NUDEST BEACH!!!!!
-
Gotcha...I would just think of it as ps4 gets it front loaded and when Xbox gets it in 2015, it's like receiving free dlc material.
-
All of the extra content is timed. And since our guardians will carry through the sequels, having to wait for a greater amount of time isn't that big of a deal. They said a year, but that isn't set in stone. As far as the act of having exclusives, its just a way to secure investment. I look at it like this. I'll play the main game, then the expansions, which I'm ok with paying designers for the content they create, then sometime down the road the timed exclusives will be available to play. If it truly bothers you, just don't play Destiny. No reason to let a game or game company get to you.

Edited by koger228: 8/25/2014 9:26:54 PM^This right here. Worlds full of real injustice that results in real people living in squalor and horror and these children of the internet just preach about what their dollar should get them. -blam!- off and go to a third world country ravaged by war and see what injustice really looks like -blam!- people make me sick.
-
I think you misinterpreted that information you received. The armor PS players receive us merely starter armor, not legendary or exotic, so in all honestly nobody will care about it since it'll get thrown away after leveling up anyways. The vehicles can only be colored sparrows so that's not big deal since we can buy/find legendary/exotic sparrows as well. The multiplayer map as well as DLC is only timed, not permanent. PS just pain more to be the poster child of destiny that's business. Hell Microsoft did it with titanfall
-
Edited by Capt Explodabob: 8/25/2014 7:13:10 PMI fully understand the part about the cosmetic features, but I kind of can't get over that there is a whole multiplayer map and an entire mission--assets and all ready to go--just sitting on the shelf for a year while the other side is playing it. Keep in mind, I have nothing against PS players, but I'm not so down with paying full price for something while not getting the full product in return. Just to clarify with Titanfall, there is a lot of speculation and misconception surrounding it. When EA and Respawn approached Sony, asking for the PS4 specs, Sony declined, while MS gave them the specs. Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-17-sony-wanted-a-playstation-vita-version-of-titanfall In my mind, I would rather have a full product or no product at all in lieu of having what is essentially not the full product whilst still having had payed full price for said product.
-
But you are getting all the content, just some minor stuff you'll have to wait for.
-
I can understand your frustration with this but in mine, and most other's, opinion, it's not enough of a difference to take action. Now if the content was ONLY on PS and never came to Xbox at all, then that would warrant some serious concern. But the content will come out in December (supposedly I'm not entirely sure about that one) and it's not enough content to worry me. I spent hours doing only one strike mission and I'll admit I too was worried about destiny content wise, but after hearing there would be 25 strikes along with around 33 story mission ontop of exploration and the crucible, I know I'll have tons of time to put into this game. I spent hours exploring and I was surprised at just how many places that weren't on YouTube or hadn't been talked about before, and many were still blocked off at the end by doors. And that's just Earth! I can't wait to go through all the others. Still worried about progression though. To clear that up, the soft cap is 20 and the hard cap is 30. After 20 you use motes of light to increase your level. I just hope it takes forever to either hit 20, or to level up all my skills. And motes of light better be pretty damn rare.
-
It sounds like you gain a mote by completing a level of XP after 20. It has been suggested that perhaps the gear that you get with motes of light, is to help you get further in raid and nightfall activities. Course not exactly sure what those both contain. Then you will kick a boss' butt and get better gear to replace/accompany your mote gear from the speaker. But alas this is still merely speculation. We'll start figuring it out in less than 2 weeks:)

Edited by Rory Mercury IX: 8/25/2014 7:32:44 PMPlay with Me!! bungie! pet the sexy kitty!! no trolls were hurt in the making of this post.
-
also Ive seen this war coming for 2 years now, as alot of Japanese game's jumped ship for the xbox, and bungie's bad breakup with Microsoft, this seem like was going to happen at some point. but too your point, the amount of PS only stuff is abit one sided.
-
To be fair, Bungie left Microsoft on pretty good terms. Their contract expired - simple as that. I don't consider Bungie to be this big 'evil corporation', because I find the notion of personifying a company to be ridiculous, but I am actually quite saddened by some of the actions of my once beloved dev team (I'm not talking about the exclusive content at this point).
-
Edited by Rory Mercury IX: 8/25/2014 7:34:23 PMfor the record, why did they end your contract?
-
Edited by Capt Explodabob: 8/25/2014 6:53:41 PMNo shit, that gif made my day. As far as I remember, their contract expired back in 2007(source will be below), but were then re-contracted to make two more games for Microsoft, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach. Bungie handed Halo, entirely, over to 343 in March of 2012. In total, I think that five (maybe a few more) Bungie employees left Bungie to join 343 so that they could continue to work on Halo. The most predominate two from recollection were Frank O'connor and Chad Armstrong. Since then, Joseph Staten, essentially the father of Halo, left Bungie to go work for Microsoft. As far as I know, there is no more history to share. Source: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/press/2007/oct07/10-05bungieevolvespr.aspx

Edited by Rory Mercury IX: 8/25/2014 6:58:03 PMi would be more into halo 4-5 but it didn't feel right, i mean i would rock the bored but get no fun out of it, and the story feels forced.

I've gotta admit that a part of me is worrying that the game won't be as big as I'd hoped. Having played the Alpha and Beta I was a little disappointed at how little extra content was in the latter. This got me thinking that the level cap may be as low as rumours say. The game itself plays great and it really mixes genres I love well. However with only three classes (6 including sub-classes) I am concerned that if the world is small and the cap is around 20, it won't have the longevity I'd hoped for.
-
Well that's where you stop getting exp but you can still push your guardian to lvl 30, plus its gonna be a lot bigger than ppl think we weren't able to do much in the beta cuz let's face it enemies with question marks as lvls kinda scares me lol but I can't wait to fully explore just how big destiny is and will become, so don't fret it's only gonna get bigger and better (not to mention harder) i hope to see you there
-
Edited by Capt Explodabob: 8/27/2014 1:07:29 PMThe cap was confirmed to be 20 (source below), but they did say that there would still be more to do after the cap was reached. What does this mean? I have no clue. A lvl cap at 20 doesn't instil confidence in the longevity of the game. Having said that, the gameplay was fun, and if there is truly more loot to be found and more dungeons to be cleared, then I guess you can't complain... unless the abilities/ skill trees become repetitive after a while. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-01-destiny-has-a-soft-level-cap-of-20-but-you-can-go-beyond-it

PS4 gets one mission. There are many in Destiny. PS4 gets one pvp level. There are many in Destiny. None of those are things that are essential to the game, nor are they "taken out" of it either. They were made specifically because of activisions deal with Sony. I understand your frustration about not "having it all", but it's not like you don't get a complete game. It's more like you buying a blu-ray with less extra content. The movie is still going to be great. Another point is about the level cap: You don't stop at level 20. Your character's max level with normal gear is 20, but you can still earn upgrades and specializations to your class. Additionally, from level 20 you can start using a completely new type of armor, one that generates Light. This allows you, with light armor, to effectively go beyond level 20 (IGN has a video of a level 29 Titan) However, it's at level 20 that you really start going into advanced gear collecting and character tweaking. The reasons the level cap is so "low", are several: 1: When creating your second, fifth or ninth character, tha game should still be fun for you, and not just an annoying "grind" 2: Destiny is skill-based, and is built with pve balance (letting high and low level characters playing together without anyone feeling useless) AND pvp balancing (crucible matches should feel fair when two experienced players compete, no matter their gear outside the iron banner events) 3: It's important to have a real sense of progression, and when the endgoal is too far away, things easily become boring. Not all players want to gain two levels on a nights playthrough, and be told that they are 2/70 on their way to become awesome.
-
Edited by Capt Explodabob: 8/25/2014 8:18:47 PMYour first point, I agree with to some extent, but it's your following argument that made me question it later on. If Destiny was truly about competitive play, then surely the addition to that multiplayer map (which is a huge exclusion considering that Bungie games quite often only ship with eight maps) would enhance the competitive aspect -- same goes for the weapons and gear that can be taken into PvP. Your second point is almost literally listed word for word in the link that I provided, and I think that the IGN video you were also talking about is the one sourced in the link as well. Your third point stands, as I'm not arguing as to whether or not Destiny will be a grind after multiple play-throughs or not. That being said, for what it's worth, I do believe that the game will not hold the longevity that everyone is expecting it to. The game is meant to have no more than twenty five missions and one raid. But, like I said, I'm not trying to argue that, and it will all come to light on the ninth. Now for the infamous PvP argument. As I originally stated, PvP would only be enhanced by the inclusion of that one additional map and gear and weapons. Past Bungie games have launched with great maps, and while great - few in numbers. Halo 3 even had an event that entaled the launching of a free map, so you can't tell me that the exclusion of an entire map is no big deal, not to mention the exclusion of a whole mission to boot. As for your final point, I disagree with you. When a distributor resort to dictating what the customers want instead of how that distributor is going to be providing what the customers want - you have a problem. Games like The Elder Scrolls,, Mass Effect, The Witcher, Dragon Age, Fallout, Assassin's Creed, Borderlands, literally any MMO and almost every other RPG that I didn't list thrives on how long they last based on sheer progression and the lengthy leveling system. If your game is good enough to be enjoyable from lvl 1 through to lvl 80, then you've done your job. A game that has limited levels and caps at a low level tells me that there wasn't enough content to last it right up through to those forty plus extra levels. To put it simply: More levels = more gameplay Less levels = less gameplay My concerns with Destiny seem justified in my eyes, maybe it differs with a different perspective.
-
At release Sony players get 11 pvp maps and we on the Xbox systems get 10. All that effects is pvp map rotation. Big whoopee doo!
-
I know you're no longer replying to this thread, and given some of the rather idiotic responses I don't blame you, but I think your last point here is at the nub of the issue. Being a PS4 gamer I don't share the concerns over timed exclusive content but I wonder if your issues are more to do with the fact that you feel that by the time XBox gamers will be able to access these exclusives you'll have grown tired of the game. I know I'd be considering that. I'm a WoW veteran and to be frank I haven't played for years, mainly due to the subscription fee if truth be told. I have tried going back a couple of times however and it has been at these times I've realised other things about the game. Being such a huge world meant that even playing through numerous classes and races didn't get boring for a long time, there was just so much to do and a variety of different zones tailoured to each level band. However, boring it did get in the end, especially when those other players I'd become friends with had drifted away, as let's face it, it's the camaraderie and shared experiences which enhance a game and contribute to its longevity. I loved the early days of WoW where gaining levels wasn't a chore or a race, but instead gave a sense of real achievement. I have to wonder whether Destiny contains enough content and depth at this time for it to keep that sense of enjoyment and achievement going for long enough for XBox gamers to be bothered about the timed exclusive content when they finally gain access to it. I think it's here where Bungie have been guilty. All of their marketing spiel and posts on here talk Destiny up to be more than a game, they talk of it's scope and size as being beyond anything that's gone before it. Maybe when judged alongside other FPS they might be right, but I think many people who got excited about the game did so because of its MMORPG elements, thus attracting players of games such as WoW. Anyone who's played WoW and the like will know that Destiny will have to go some to measure up to them in terms of size, so I guess that'll leave many disappointed. I'm hopeful we'll still have an amazing game to play come release but given the amount of hype the game's had and the amount that's been spent on it, I for one won't be surprised if this effects reviewers' ratings a little and that there's more of a backlash than expected.
