hard drive upgrade

Has anyone done or looked into upgrading the PS4 hard drive? I am debating on upgrading the standard 500GB HD for a 1TB hybrid drive. The hybrid would be around $150 and should speed the PS4 boot time and loading of games. I love my Solid State drives in my PC and now how much of a difference they can make, never really been a fan of hybrids, but think maybe they would be perfect for a PS4, since I don't want to drop $400-$500 on a 500GB ssd. Reviewing speed differences, the hybrids are just slightly slower the full ssd.

  • @JLHardesty - I've used both a hybrid and an SSD (with the SSD currently installed), and I can tell you that the impact for either is minimal due to the PS4's SATA II interface bottleneck and generally slow disk I/O. I save a few seconds here and there with booting up and Destiny load times, but its nowhere near as fast as if Destiny was running on a PC w/ SSD. If you happen to need a bigger hard drive anyways, get a hybrid - but I'd recommend against upgrading only for minuscule gains in speed - or at least google the measurements various people out there have made and judge for yourself whether it is worth it to you.

  • Hi. I've got a 4tb hybrid drive in an orico external esata enclosure. It's an easy mod to run the sata lead inside and out of the back top vents....very easy... Runs like a charm. Youtube it. • I've seen video comparisons on Youtube of 1TB hybrid drive and a 1TB 7200 RPM standard drive and there was no noticeable difference in the speeds. The hybrid was only a fraction of a second faster. Personally Im going to hold off on upgrading because I really want a minimum of 2TB but would like even more. One Can Hope!!!

  • I recently upgraded to a 1TB HDD. It's 7200 RPM, so it's better than stock... Right? Anyway, from what I've read, the performance improvements in going SSD are negligible compared to the cost. I therefore went for size and cost. Paid $65 on Amazon for the HDD and it turned out to be the same brand as the stock (something Japanese). I recommend going for size, not speed. Also, upgrading his stupid easy.

  • I've upgraded with Seagate 1TB hybrid. Lots of space. Performance improvement not really noticeable. Maybe if I had put a clock on it before and after....
