Problem with the secondary special ammo... So I had my sniper out... "BLAM!" headshot! Then I changed my gun to the fusion rifle to kill a group of fallen that had just spawned near my location... Tried to make a charge shot and pffft! No ammo!? Wtf? So does changing your special weapon to another special weapon force you to lose your ammo? I noticed this happened all the time... Pretty unfortunate :( I can deal with it but I wish we had our hard earned special (green) ammo until we have fired it all... Anyone else notice this? Psn(ps4):Parkermusic

Bungie did this so you couldn't have endless secondary and heavy ammo. You can hold 1 active weapon and 9 others. So by losing the ammo, limits what players go in with. Would you want to go against everyone having 10 fully loaded rocket launchers? That and the heavy ammo drop timing is to give players map locations to race to, get, and defend.

By far the most logical explanation to that issue.

I found a way around this, when ammo drops from enemies and you intend to switch weapons leave the ammo there. Switch to weapon you want then pick up ammo. Down side is you may not have as much ammo but by doing this you can switch to second weapons of same class. This really works well in boss fights or where enemies are many. During beta did this many times switching from sniper rifle to fusion rifle. Just remember not to pick up the ammo until you have the weapon you intend to use equipped.

Bungie has said there will be consequences that happen when you change guns mid game this could be it
-
I have a theory for this! So all the ammo comes in those blocks you saw during the game right? Well when those are picked up they scan your equipment and format themselves into the ammo you need for the guns you have equipped. However once they're transformed that's it, you can't shoot sniper rounds out of a shotgun!

-
Same thing on my PS3. I have no idea if it's intentional or a bug, but it royally blows when you switch weapons to find the ammo gone for the weapon you had just stowed.
-
The sadness I felt when I would switch to a different weapon was almost unreal :( haha oh well... Maybe I'll "stick with" the fusion rifle until I see more special Ammo to pick up... Then I'll switch :)

When outside in the open I used my sniper rifle, then before going into structures I would switch to my shotgun to collect green ammo upon it's drop knowing I needed to load my shotgun up before I could use it. Like you I was able to work around it, but it was quite a pain and required me to be somewhat sober to remember that. A few times I go running in somewhere and whip out the shotty.... "Click". Oh hey, now I need to punch you since you are so close, Enemy.

Tactical shooter...... Not OP sandbox

Haha I know your pain! Haha I still will love this game... So psyched! Bought two copies... LE for Xbox one and DGE for ps4 woot!

Sadly, I was unable to get the DGE. I will have to settle for the regular special edition which has all the same digital stuff, but none of that amazing paper that comes along with the DGE. A single tear rolls down my cheek. BUT, I don't have to wait for shipping and download with the SE, can start download Sunday prior to launch. When my clock strikes midnight I will be immediately eliminating some Darkness!
