I think Microsoft and Sony should just team up to co-create the Ultimate console with the best of both systems integrated into one perfect, upgradeable package. Call it X-Station or PlayBox and lets get down to whats most important here; Gaming, and having fun! We are all one big family with a shared passion. Arent we? yes? Good!
Destiny is the first game ever, to make me check for new info constantly and watch the same trailers over and over. This is also my first time being involved in any forum and my first post. Just wanted to say hello to everyone and share my exuberance for Destiny.
Both of these consoles that everyone is always arguing about are both fantastic systems already and they have so much capacity for growth and refinement. Imo anyone who owns either one is a winner.
Bungie RULES!! They will not let us down. Cant help but believe that.
"Be excellent to each other!" and i hope all of you have as much of a BLAST eradicating the Darkness as i know i am going to.

Amazing ... I have had the same idea. But there is greed and there are laws to keep a monopolizing force out of business so having one big game company control it all is a no no. However they could do a one time only kid of thing where they make a ultimate box.
-
Brilliant idea...... Alas we live in a capitalism driven world where such progress is stunted by the greed of shareholders...

Competition is good for the customer and brings the price down, drives innovation, and fuels job growth.

Edited by RVB DOC04: 8/27/2014 8:47:34 PMwhy is it that x-station and play box is the first names comes to people's mind when thinking about a Microsoft/Sony console, be more creative with the name, I once thought what if Microsoft and apple joined together, what would be their name, then I thought Microapple, Applesoft, but then my friend made the best one, which became the most popular, mycrapple, I asked him why that one, and he said because its my crap therefor he name it mycrapple. Do you guys want to know what crap stands for ?
-
I wasnt submitting those names as what i thought were superb names for a new console lol but are either of my (off the top of my head)suggestions really any worse than the existing names for each? Is anyone really overly impressed with the names xbox or playstation anyway? They are both lame imo. Moreso, i was trying to say that imo the name is not important. No offence to anyone
-
I'm just saying that those two names are the most common, that's all

I agree completely, unfortunately I'm still annoyed at Bungie for screwing the Xboxers. They did. No other way to think about it. Playstation loses nothing, so don't complain. I won't either. Yes, I'm xbox only. Sorry. Microsoft/Sony would probably benefit from a partnership, I don't know why they don't do it ('cept for the hurt feelings, competition and super right wing "competition is the only way anything ever happens ever. Ever." sort of mindframe. Welcome to the bungie Forums!

Edited by JetpackGiraffe: 8/27/2014 11:25:23 PMXB has each and every Halo exclusive to it. I say you should be grateful you get Destiny at all. Just think if they had made it PS exclusive. Then you would have complaining rights, but I don't think you should be doing so now. All you have do is to wait a little longer for the DLCs, that's not that bad!

Great idea

The Playbox. A cardboard box with so much to do with.... I-M-A-G-I-N-A-T-I-O-N

One console is a nice dream, but the fact is that competition helps drive improvement and advancement.
One console is a nice dream, but the fact is that competition helps drive improvement and advancement.
I disagree. That statement is taken as fact for no other reason than because it has been drilled into us by society. Its particularly true in this circumstance...Sony and MS won't allow cross platform play specifically because they believe it will reduce their "competitive edge". How does this advance progress in the gaming industry? It doesn't... It limits growth. Greed trumps progress.
-
This is an excellent point as well. Greed is a huge barrier for all of us. If we all stuck together as gamers maybe we could lessen the impact of it instead of watching it grow rampant
-
It's taken as fact because economists have studied such things on the broad scale. If there was only one gaming console (and therefore a monopoly on video game platforms), there would be overall less rapid improvements. The company or companies controlling it would only make it better at a very gradual pace to keep people interested, which wouldn't be hard if there was only one place to go for video games and your only other options were other forms of media like movies, TV, books, etcetera. Granted, if there was still PC gaming there would still be some competition, but as it stands, PCs are always ahead in hardware compared to console anyway, so there would likely be more PC-only titles and Console-only titles as the gap between the PC and console would, if anything, widen.

But economists can't study what I'm talking about because it doesn't exist in reality (except on star trek or at burning man). Proving something scientifically requires observation in reality. I am not so much saying that competitive behavior inhibits progress, more that accumulating money being the end goal inhibits progress. Companies are competing for money, not to see who makes the best games. MS and Sony not allowing cross platform play is more the result of them feeling that it would reduce the profits they receive and users they can monetize...as well as be legally challenging and very costly. Those are poor reasons IMO. But things change so in our lifetime I would expect cross platform to become a reality.
-
Oh, I get it. You're saying you have a problem with capitalism in general. Yeah, idealized communist/socialist utopia would be awesome, but every time a government has tried to operate like that in our history it didn't work due to human corruption. In just talking about in our current modern reality, having the competition is preferable to a monopoly.
-
Yup, essentially. I tend to feel that the lack of cross platform play is a symptom of this shitty part of society/human nature that measures success in money. Its not Sony/Microsofts fault, but they could do more to make it a reality I'm sure. Its not really capitalism's fault either, rather the narrow interpretation of it the majority adheres to that is really to blame. In the end we work with what we have. Its a shame ps4/Xbox players can't play with each other, we would be on equal footing in all important regards to my understanding. so it would be super interesting to be able to compare play habits/styles/quirks/scores if we all existed in the same environment.

-
Well...my overall point is "economies" are not necessary to human advancement. Which I don't think I can "prove" because to my knowledge no society exists within this framework. And every culture on the planet has to work with what actually exists. I could elaborate but its a big conversation that would be mostly wasted time because my perspective is so fringe that very few people would want to begin to try to grasp it. But I do think the cross platform topic articulates the problem and solution very well. I probably shouldn't have responded at all ;)
-
Plus we don't want the console gaming industry to become somewhat monopolized. Then they could charge what ever they want.
-
Basic economic structure.

I totally agree

I own both first day editions Xbox 1 n ps4 a little pissed about the kinect but like both
