• First time I feel like the Flood are deserving of the name "shaping sickness."

  • Halo is gonna earn that M rating.

  • It better, Halo hasn't exactly been deserving a full on M rating lately. Hell the only reason it was M at all was the Flood.

Agreed. That concluding scene in 'The Composer' was quite a leap forward for the franchise. I expect, as the 'darkest Halo', and the fact that 343 are acknowledging how terrifying the Flood can be, we'll be seeing more mature content in Halo 5, and beyond. We could see scenes such as those depicted in the 'Mona Lisa' short, or Escalation - with the gathered souls, and 'Chief plunging his knife into the Didact's eye. There was a goofiness to Halo (aside from Reach) - which is fine, it was part of the appeal - that prevented it from really justifying the rating, but I think 343 is definitely more focused on telling a far more serious, and compelling, story in their games; which will justify that 'M'.

  • The goofiness was mostly a product of the Halo 3/ODST era, Halo 2 and CE were solidly M rated games with all the blood being spilled and horrific Flood imagery. Halo 3 demoted Truth to a saturday morning cartoon villain and except for the level Cortana the Gravemind was too over the top to be scary. Halo 4 was a step back in the right direction.

no halo 3 was perfect and is the best piece of canon ever added to the franchise. i love gravemind in halo 3. he is my favorite incarnation of the character.
the halo 3 terminals that is. the actual halo 3 portrayal of the flood is so mind numbingly bad that it depresses me each time i think about what could have been
• Halo 3 had amazing cannon. Halo 3 is best Halo.
They should have just given the job of lead writer to whoever wrote the terminals/Iris. It's unbelievable that Bungie had such a compelling narrative in their own ancillary material but their primary narrative was so, so bad...
•
Same. It's a shame really, Bungie's Halo always had good potential but they rarely took advantage of it. Their ancillary material was always more compelling imo
