Legacy rewards?
Destiny players who have been long time Bungie.net users could receive special Bungie or Halo themed rewards for their Guardians.
A few ideas:
A septagon emeblem, a blue fire for their helm, or a Ghost that looks like Guilty Spark.

Because of that they wouldn't have access to the very benefit you're suggesting. And I'll go ahead and say that your idea would effectively be inaccessible to a large portion of the Xbox players and the vast majority, if not all of the PlayStation players.
