I feel this is the same problem that the Halo games had, was that there was never any explanation to anything that was ever happening in the story. Good storytelling involves actually telling a story, not expecting people to find it all out through cards online. I have no problem with the existence of Grimoire, I absolutely love delving into lore, but what is actually present in the game is really shallow. I have no reason to want to connect with my character. The only information I'm given about 'The Last Safe City' (other than the very small tower area filled with vendors and nothing else) is that it exists. Like, really that's all. Are there people living there other than Guardians? It's implied, but how am I supposed to fight for people who, to me, are never even seen or mentioned?
I know that there is more story to come but I'm kind of scared by the lack of depth I've been presented with so far.
I really want to like Destiny, and it may be a superbly polished game with awesome loot I can't enjoy something so... hollow. Sorry if this was too rambly.
Thoughts?

while this is an odd way of doing things and seems like an awful waste of some really cool stuff (ghost fragment:vex for just one example) i think we should all keep in mind the ball has only just started rolling lorewise, the story didn't end when you completed the available story missions, there is no reason that we won't see stuff in the grimoire coming to life in game, there are regular updates and expansions to go yet and i've no doubt that there will be expanded universe stuff, books comics, more live action.
