  • PVE's a huge letdown for me, all the bosses are exactly the same, there isn't enough content and the world is tediously boring - there's nothing in it. They've got lost somewhere between RPG (of which it has nowhere near enough content and gear to come close to the best), MMORPG (which they failed miserably at every turn, those games are huge and varied - they learnt lessons about the grinds many years ago Bungie have ignored, plus the social thing, there's no community, trading, economy etc...) and of course, FPS, which is where it recovers somewhat. The mechanics are excellent, everything is fluid and precise, it's Halo, basically. But there's no story (another prerequisite for a decent RPG and MMORPG is an expansive 50+ hour story from the very start) and every single mission and boss is exactly the same, I can't believe how little variety there is. None of the bosses require actual cooperation either, you just need people to spread out to attract fire so others can shoot - duck when you have its attention, shoot when you don't, defeat fodder and repeat for 20 minutes. That's not fun. Not after 50 runs it isn't anyway. The only reason for 3 people is so it takes 20 minutes instead of 40/60. And don't even get me started on the sidequests... PvP is excellent, the maps are well-layered, there's no easy cover position to make it a sniper bore, it's Bungie's strength and executed well. I'm more of an objective-based PvP guy myself so Control is preferred, I tend to suck badly at team matches because I just run around aimlessly and get shotgunned by sneaky -blam!-ers sat in cover. Objectives force everyone to be on the move, so I prefer that, unless it's Battlefield where everything can be blown up and cover is almost pointless. Anyway, my point is, it needs more PvP modes but is otherwise excellent.
