Marks & Reputation Explained

This will be my first post, I am open to additions or corrections so don't hold back. Through talking with people there has been some confusion with marks and reputation with the different factions, so I will explain what I do know. Rep You can collect rep from doing bounties, patrols, or strikes at the lower levels as well as 20+ I'm sure there are other events that will give you more rep so feel free to add your comments. Marks This part confused me, but once I hit level 18 it made a bit more sense because until level 18, you don't earn them. For the crucible after 18, just playing will net you marks, as well you can get marks from the bounties as well I think, not sure. Regardless, a win will net you 3 marks, a loss 2. Vanguard marks can be obtained through bounties and strikes from the strikes play list. Uses The marks and rep all tie in together for items, to purchase items from the vendors for Vanguard, Crucible, Dead Orbit, Future War Cult or New Monarchy, you will need a specific amount of rep with the said faction as well as the required marks to purchase each item. The specific requirements of each item will be listed from the vendor, but from what I have seen it's a minimum rep of level 2, and around 35 marks? Not sure on that number again. Factions You can change which factions you get rep with depending on certain gear that you can purchase from the vendors once you hit level 20. For example, if you go to the Dead Orbit vendor in the ship bay, you can buy a class specific item (My hunter gets a cloak) while wearing that item, rep gained will be turned into dead orbit rep instead of the other faction (I am not certain if it is ALL rep, or just rep that would go towards Vanguard maybe someone else can add insight into this). Once that item is removed, reputation gains will return to normal. this same model applies to all the extra factions of DO, FWC or NM. Selling Parts & Items This part I have myself not tried yet, but from what I've read once you get 50x an item like spinmetal for example, you can go to the vendor of your choosing (believe it's just crucible or vanguard) and sell the items to get marks... or rep, not sure how it works, again haven't done it. But the principle is solid that you need to get 50x, sell it, get the reward... Hope this helps someone! Again I am not super experienced only having hit 20 yesterday myself so if there is anything to correct or add feel free to do so!

 • I would like to expand on this a bit, if I may. Your Faction points are only applied to your faction if you are wearing the mark from that faction. HOWEVER, if you look closely, most, if not all, of the items you see in the faction supply store require CRUCIBLE MARKS to purchase. If you have been doing strike playlists, you have been earning Vanguard points (up to 100/week). That being said, it is better off (and more efficient) if you leave faction marks off until you complete your desired set of Vanguard gear, which is purchased with the Vanguard points you already have. Keep in mind, this only applies if you have a lot more Vanguard points than Crucible points. If, somehow, you have more Crucible points, disregard the above and get you some sweet faction gear! </2cents>
