No, I agree. The glyphs look forerunner, though the ship design looks covenant.

It crashed on 04 in 60,000BCE, furthermore, Catalog confirmed the ship belongs to a species that has yet to be discovered. As for the gyphs, those were in Forerunner Digon. Spark was trying to translate the signal into Digon.

Hmm. How strange. This is going to sound far fetched, but do you remember how forerunner ships could split apart in case of flood infection? Perhaps this 'ship' was a fragment of a ship of similar design, even if it was not forerunner. What surprises me is that spark doesn't outright say 'yeah, they're dead', which would suggest that, as well as O2 emissions and a distress signal, that there were life signs.

No. If you recall Spark refers to the ship as being short range, meaning it was originally apart of a larger fleet. It is assumed they died at some point considering the bodies were never recovered and the ship was entombed.

Rewatch from 24:20. At the end, as spark mentions the didact, there is a sudden explosion and an ur-didact signal appears suddenly. Related, do you think?

Not a lot. There's the potential for it t have survived the explosion, though, and to still be on a certain piece of halo ring that a certain UNSC NAVSPECWEP team visit between the events of halo 4 and halo 5....

Ah well. I was just thinking - if Locke is hunting down an element which destroys humans, then that'd fit well with the precursors - they certainly had the means to create elements, and it is not unthinkable that one of their ships survived the (weakened) halo array. Perhaps this element was designed to kill forerunners but instead ended up an anti-human weapon, or perhaps it was intended as a failsafe for if the inheritors of the mantle rebelled as the forerunners did.
