Exotic Chest Engram - Terrible Game Design

Continuing with the terrible engram game design, I wanted to add into the discussion the atrocious game design behind exotic chest engrams purchased with Motes of Light. Tonight I spent 23 of my hard earned Motes of Light on one of the exotic chest engram from Xur. Low and behold (for some reason I knew it was going to happen) I received a Titan armor piece whilst on my Warlock. My feedback is coming from my personal situation of someone who works full time and can only spend time on one character. I find this type of random system completely unfair. For something that is SOOOO expensive and requires a lot of time to get the materials, designing it to reward an item for ANY class is lazy and a cheap way to add in more grind. My suggestion to Bungie is to make the engram give you a random class specific armor piece for any slot (head, chest, boots, gauntlets). That's my tiny rant and 2 cents, let me know what your thoughts are on this. Have you been screwed over as well? Back to farming Motes of Light with what little time I have to end up getting laughed at by chance again.

 • The engram system and loot system in general has shown that Bungie actually has no clue when it comes to RPGs. The game as an FPS is fantastic, well executed, great game modes.etc. - but as an RPG, it falls WELL short. That's not to say that it's meant to be, but as you mention - picking up engrams only to have it be something you either can't use, or rolls an item of a far less quality (such as a legendary engram getting a green), it makes the experience somewhat hurtful. Here's my proposal, Bungie: 1. Whenever an engram is dropped, the type and quality of engram ensures that the item that is randomised from that engram, needs to be of that quality, or higher - or provide materials FOR that quality item. For example, if a legendary engram drops (I've only seen about 3 so far), then it should produce a legendary quality item or higher, or - 1 + n materials necessary to upgrade an item of that quality. 2. Any items purchased with hard earned materials such as Nomad posted, should ALWAYS generate an item for your class, at that quality level. No excuses. Either that, or seriously reduce the cost of those engrams. 23 coins for something you may not get or be able to use is shocking. All in all, love the game, but the RPG and loot elements are sorely lacking.
