Someone asked about Civilization 5 recently and apparently that's not a proper RTS.
Mentioning RTS only made me want to play one again. A few years ago I enjoyed a C&C game on my dad's PC.
What game lets me build an army and then send that army into battle or to capture/protect an area?
I like the idea of developing a force, educating and training them, then gathering resources and/or taking other civilizations' land - or becoming their ally; slowly taking over the world.
I've been looking at Planetary Annihilation, but I doubt it has replayability.
Right now I'm downloading the C&C Red Alert 3 demo.

Yeah definitively Star Wars: Empire at war And the Corruption expansion. Not only is it a fantastic game, but the modding community gives it infinite replayability. You should absolutely try it.

The Star Wars one. I forgot the name of it but that was my favorite as a kid.

Civ 5 isn't a REAL TIME strategy game. It is a Turn-based Strategy game. The MP is a grey area, since everyone takes their turns at the same time but uhhh... it is mostly turn-based.

Advance Wars is a super fun game
