Secret to Earning Legendary Drops

There is no Secret, just stop farming, stop using that time from having to complete your daily bounties... Play as much Patrol, Vanguard , and Crucible as you can. Rank up your faction of choice and just buy your damn legendary items. Play the game to earn your Strange Coins and Mote Lights which can be used for buying exotic items. I don't think its just me, but I always max out on Glimmer (25K) and I use it all up on buying garbage from "Cryptarch" so I can rank up there as much as I can. Each rank up on Cryptarch will reward your from the post office...a lot of my legendary weapons and body armors came from that as well. Playing on the harder difficulty helps you a lot because it spawns more enemies. It can also reward you best for daily and weekly missions. Getting a legendary item isn't hard to do, fully upgrading them is the real challenge. And farming isn't going to upgrade them for you. the Exotic bounty will have you do what you should have been doing to begin with...

  • I played this game for a LONG time with two separate characters. I have only received one legendary engram over the course of both gameplays. I tried cave farming for about an hour or two total, and still no legendary engram. Not even one purple engram to disappoint me at the cryptarch. JUST playing the game gives you a crap chance at a legendary engram, let alone a chance at actually having that engram be a legendary item. It doesn't bother me, though, as I've got enough to buy whatever I want once my rep is high enough soon, and Xur gets into town. I'm just saying, the farming thing isn't all that effective for getting what you really need. I would much rather play a raid or a heroic strike and be guaranteed something good, but that doesn't happen. It's sad that farming a cave - while not very lucrative - is better than completing very challenging content that is part of gameplay.

    • It seems to be different for everybody. Maybe its just a matter of luck of reward. Its not like Bungie would tell you what it is you need to do to get good drops. I'm Level 27 with plenty of Legendary and Exotic. All from just playing the game, doing my bounties and the daily, weekly usual. I've earned my level doing what I do best. Dieing the least possible and always getting the most kills in all my missions 95% of the time. Some people earn it by farming, you can do as you please in this game to get what you need. One thing that for sure isn't something you can farm your way through is Upgrading your armors. You must do the missions that give you the Ascendant Materials. Still enjoy the game. Can't wait until the next Event tomorrow. Lets GO!

    • I don't know why everyone keeps saying to stop farming and start buying your gear from vendors. A lot of people prefer to farm for gear through adventure than buy through a vendor. Now, if they complain about it 24/7, then they should probably follow that advice and just buy it if they want it that bad; but I'd honestly rather grind for gear than to buy it. It just makes it more fun for me.

      • I tried farming once. It was horrible. I can get more legendaries by running around and actually patrolling rather than farming

But I've gotten like 15+ different legendary items(probably 30+ legendary engrams)from 3~4 days worth of farming and other side stuff. Not to mention a crapload of strange coins and motes, and upgrade mats that I've gotten from dismantling things I don't need.
