The Traveler supposedly saved our worlds, sacrificed itself only for our benefit. But is this really the truth? Do we have any infallible evidence to prove this? We, at Binary Star Cult, do have a theory. We believe the Traveler may not be as "holy" as it is made out to be. It may have acted only in selfish reasons, or even in malicious ones. It could have brought the Darkness to our doorstep intentionally, or it could even BE the Darkness. However, you may ask yourself, how can this theory be any more correct than the one that states the goodness of the Traveler?
The answer is: we have evidence. Or at least, we will. This is why this thread is being posted, to find, collect, and analyze the evidence of this theory. I will start it off with a piece of evidence below, from a ghost fragment. This thread is public. Anyone can put their facts or suspicions here. Don't be afraid to speak your mind. The smallest detail you may have could be the key to this entire theory.
Although we firmly believe in this theory, we do not want to be blind like some of the followers of the Traveler. If you have any piece of evidence against this theory, if you still believe the Traveler is pure, please, tell us. If we cannot challenge and refute your hypotheses, then how valid are ours?
Nevertheless, as promised, here is a bit of confirmation for the theory.

This Grimoire card is a brief passage from "Dreams of Alpha Lupi." It says:
"This has been such a long chase. This will be the place you will fight. Fight and win.
But do you really know why you go where you go, and where this journey is taking you?
The chase leads you where you need to be, you believe.
Unless...you are being pushed."
The final line is the key to this evidence. It questions the whole nature of our quest to revive the Traveler. It is not a particularly strong piece of evidence, but we will find more. We will find out the truth about the Traveler. We will find out if I will ever stop speaking like some kind of holy priest giving a sermon. Please, contribute to this theory, not to support any faction or cult, but to support every player of Destiny by discovering the truth.

I will admit, there's definitely something fishy about the whole "light vs. dark" thing. -Ghost fragment, roughly quoted, about the black garden. "You are dead, reanimated to destroy. This is a place of life." I'd assume this is talking about the guardian, who was brought back from the dead by a ghostly, infiltrating the black garden. If the black garden's heart was alive, does this show an antithesis to the traveler being a construct of metal and machinery? Also, I don't trust the speaker. His mask bothers me.

I think the Traveler is the Darkness. Where is the damage on the traveler? Facing the Last City. If it defended Earth from something coming from the cosmos why would its underside be damaged. I think the Traveler destroyed all life on the other planets and then when it turned to Earth, Humans stood up and defended it, just stopping the Traveler from crashing into the Earth's surface. I think we created our own Golden Age and that drew the Traveler or as I believe The Darkness.

Edited by cbrgirrl: 4/16/2015 2:37:45 AMI found this on a grimiore and I think IT may be the traveler it says IT is alone and IT won!!!!! Also the gate to the black garden is on mars where the traveler was originally met!!! Consider IT the power Titanomach world-ender and consider what IT means. I met IT at the gate of the garden and I recall IT smiled at me before before IT devoured the blossoms with black flame and pinned their names across the sky. IT was stronger than everything. I fought IT with aurora knives and with the stolen un-fire of singularities made sharp and my sweat was earthquake and my breath was static but IT was stronger so how did I survive? I AM ALONE I survived alone. I cast off the shield and I shrugged my shoulders so that the billions fell off me down into the ash. They made me to be stronger than them and to learn and I learned well: IT is alone and IT is strong and IT won. Even over the gardener and she held power beyond me but the gardener did not shrug and make herself alone. IT always wins.

There's also still a lot to Rasputin. From what I've gathered it goes like this: Humans made him and other war kinda to protect us. When the darkness came and the collapse happened, he did his protocol shit. His main programming was to survive, so that he could stop the darkness. But he knew at that time he couldn't defeat it. So, when those humans went out to the asteroid belt, he did something not sure what, but it's almost like he sacrificed those humans to the darkness. This humans became the awoken. Remember there's a link to the awoken and the nine as well. We also know they are on the edge of light and dark, and maybe consist of both. But that's another story. Back ras. So we find out he survived, but he's not necessarily on our side. Why not? He also has info locked away and control or parts of Cosmodrone and the warmind on Mars. Is he an enemy? Or does he know something is up with the traveler or speaker? So much mystery. I can't say this is all true, I read some of it somewhere

The traveler is both the light and darkness. Xur states i believe at one point that "the traveler has a dark mirror" or something of that effect They are both and the same. That is why the traveler sacrifices himself. If one dies they both die. Hive are given power from the darkness the same way the Guardians gain power from the light. I think the traveler created all races, but humanity. To create a perfect race, only things went bad..... the first of each race was killed. To resurrect the old gods, these races saught after the traveler for the power to bring them back.

Mind blown💥💥

What I always wondered was humans, a race that isn't all good. We have done many horrible things in our history, and I don't see how we could be beacons of light. At least not all of us. We do have darkness inside of us. Maybe there's something more to that? Maybe the darkness is inside us and that keeps it alive so to speak? I'm not too sure

Bungie should totally make a fan theory tab for everyone to share they're stories :D

Has anyone noticed that the previous story of destiny where crow captures you seems to be very similar to the story in Cod Advanced warfare. You start out on the bad side (atlas) then change to sentinel and you then fight against atlas

I think that the vex were gardeners of the garden, i read that somewhere, but the darkness came and took control of them. The darkness could have done that, so it has an invincible army to use against the traveler. The traveler could be evil, and the darkness is fighting back.

There are tons of security cameras throughout the tower.... Why? Are the guardians not to be trusted? I've heard all kinds of theories, my favorite being that the fallen were like humanity before. Blessed by the light if the traveler, up until something happened, and they were cast out of his light. Now they follow after him, hunting/plaguing his new children, trying to gain back favor with their old God/deity. The hive are the true darkness (now that the original storyline has changed completely). Like a plague moving through the universe, enveloping anything, because their existence is tried, true and wins against everything else. Much like the Vex. I believe it was Toland the shattered who fretted about this constantly in the grimoires. Queens/armies that existed because their formula for existence prevailed over others, which perished and ceased to exist. This "working" formula was passed on, whatever list was not. This is how the Vex grew as well. Evolving to the point where they could control space/time, and even existence. They are not the darkness, something totally different, but key in the big picture. The cabal? They're another species irrelevant to the story, but there to add another degree of depth/something to kill. Or they're simply after the traveler, its power and our planets resources. Humans stumbled across the traveler, it viewed mankind as another force capable of helping it fend off the darkness, and helped bolster mankind in order to do so.

The Traveler could be evil, or the Speaker could be evil, or both. Our Ghost is potentially under the control of both, so either way, the Ghost basically a proxy for evil. I have a few thoughts on this... 1) We are an undead army led by collective intelligence (Ghost). Let that sink in. We are basically zombies. 2) Think about the names of some of the enemies we face: Wizards, Knights, Acolytes, Priests -- names typically associated with good guys. We are Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks, all of which have negative or evil connotations to them. 3) The "Legend of the Black Garden" Grimoire card has a story where a Guardian is walking in the Black Garden and one of the flowers speaks to him and says: "You are a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All you will ever do is kill. You do not belong here. This is a place of life." I believe that the Traveler or possibly just "Light" in general is skewing our vision. Perhaps the enemies we are facing are not that evil or hideous -- perhaps the Light is causing us to see them that way. Maybe we are the Darkness and they are trying to extinguish us.

The exo stranger tells you that the traveler/speaker (or was it light?) is not what they seem to be suggesting we might of been used to fight off the darkness for the traveler as it knew it was being followed. you find the shard of the traveler in one mission against the hive because they are doing some ritual for it to not be able to heal hence the broken bottom part of it through the game. also the servitors the fallen worship as gods seem slightly similar to the traveler, machine balls that heal and provide so much. maybe the fallen are called fallen because they were used by the traveler to try and fight off the darkness but they failed and got f****d up and now they seek revenge or something.

Edited by Kenshin75: 4/16/2015 2:36:34 AMThere is a grimiore card under Legends and mysteries about the black garden it seems like it can relate to this theory.

This time, WE ARE THE COVENANT!

This is taken entirely out of context. Isn't it talking ABOUT the traveler being pushed?
-
So... you formulated a theory that is really completely game changing on one grimoire. Not only that, but you most likely misunderstood said grimoire.

Reading all these posts gives me the best kind of headache

Ok here is some questions to your clan to ponder. Who is Respution? Is he the one who created the Vex to protect humanity? Why with the traveler being here does the Vex attack us guardians? If the Vex are biological beings with a collective mind. Is the collective mind a lot of humans from the golden age? My theory in all of this is during the golden age humans tried to achieve true enlightenment. The only way that it was possible was to join the minds together. The other races like fallen and cabal started attacking and bringing the darkness together. The Vex(the human race that combined their minds) tried to push away the darkness by itself but the traveler came from the darkness to give life to the light. The traveler created the light to try and revive those that the fallen and cabal killed. The light only serves the purpose of the traveler. The awoken are the humans that failed to join the Vex and succumbed to the darkness. The awoken are afraid of helping those born from the light. The awoken want to help us find out the real truth.

In my view, the Traveler is a benevolent entity that wishes to help others. The Darkness is an evil force that wants to destroy the Traveler and the Guardians. The Darkness, in my view, is like a snake, decisive and sly, slithering in the background, pulling the strings of not just it's power, but of Reality itself. It is not the good guy. In a Ghost fragment, a Guardian fell off the "Shores of Time", a multiplayer map, but maybe a portal or realm too. He said he walked The Black Garden, and cut his finger on thorn on a Ghost shaped rose. The rose told him that the Traveler and Guardians are "dead things that kill", and that it should leave the Garden because "it is a place of life". True, but what KIND of life? The Traveler brings Light and peace, bringing humanity to it's Golden Age for nothing in return. The Darkness created and/or supports the Vex, planet-taking robots. the Hive, planet-eating monsters, the Cabal, a world-invading military empire, and finally the Fallen, who steal anything they can, and kill anyone who gets in their way. If the Traveler was evil, why did it nearly die trying to save a single, small civilization? Why does it still hover over the Last City, still guarding it? Someone else commented that a Fallen cried "The Darkness!" when killed, and said maybe the PLAYERS are the Darkness. I think that was just the thing cursing, like "The Darkness will consume you!", or something like that. The Traveler is pure. It's Ghosts brought back those who had died in the Golden Age, and has given humanity a chance to survive. Don't question it. Guard it.

It's not, but the Traveler has an evil twin. One of Xurs dialogue lines is: "Your Traveler has a dark mirror".

Who the Hell keeps necro bumping shit today?

Edited by xpctR3sistanc3: 3/2/2015 1:02:20 AMI personally think the Traveler & the speaker will turn out to be our true enemy.

Edited by Gideon VI: 2/27/2015 2:15:55 AMThe Traveler is not evil, for -blam!-'s sake. This isn't -blam!-ing Warhammer 40k.
