Yeah, I'm getting the same vibe. I don't feel like I'm earning anything. My "legend" is bestowed by the good graces of RNGesus, and that's not very brag worthy.
When Bungie wanted players to say "Whoah! How'd he get that Exotic?" I'm sure they didn't want the answer to be: "He got it from a random roll after being AFK during an entire Crucible match."

Couple of days ago I went negative in the Crucible and when the reward screen came I got four rewards one of which being the exotic sniper Ice Breaker. Felt good and bad. Good since I got another exotic, but bad because based of the match's performance I didn't earn it.

You can't. KDR is kills divided by deaths. It's a ratio. 1/100 (assuming one person was shot to death 100 times) would produce a KDR of .01. Don't believe me? Jump into a random game and ask if people can organize it for you to die 100 times.

"Negative" in FPSs means you got less kills then deaths. Not that your k/d is literally a negative interval.

You can go negative genius. Meaning that you have more deaths than kills. KDR of .5 still technically positive is still negative.

In that match I died more than I killed.

The only thing you really "earn" is faction and vanguard gear.

I got that gun while helping a friend. I liked the gesture (I had patience and took time to help him). The afker in your game should've gotten a green called DieIrlAleadyKid.

True that - I certainly didn't have that in mind. I hope at some point we get some super rare stuff that you can get (no randomly) for doing something specific, that is pretty freaking hard. I mean even relating it to the grimoire challenges would make me happy!

Its not perfect, but its close to doing something "legendary" to get unique looking (read: reskinned) and powerful armor.

Agreed. I think the exotic bounties are another step in that right direction. Hopefully they keep taking steps in the right direction until they arrive there.

As long as it's not something cave relateed like "kill 1000 enemies without taking damage/dying" lol Make it a man's challenge! Like "Kill 50 enemies on a sparrow in 10 minutes" :D
