It's pretty common practice for developers to put DLC content in slowly through patches and such so they can test it in the actual game. This way you can have smooth DLC releases relatively bug free. the actual expansion is only 9.5 mb because thats the size of the bits of code which unlock the content for you. if you could actually download the DLCs why don't they release them now? Icons and a (really small) map really prove nothing that anything was cut. Usually when you have a large developing studio like bungie you delegate tasks to certain groups so that way everything gets done in a timely manner. So it doesn't surprise me that they already had content for the expansions pre-release. Even if they cut anything it was because they couldn't finish it within Activisons release dates. Anyways, now bungie has more time to polish out this content so it is the best it can be. It's pathetic to assume on so little evidence. If they had voice-overs, Actual bosses, and playable missions i would agree. But you don't all you have to show is, what seems to me, unfinished content.

  • There are old E3 videos showing the hairdo man from the reef pointing a gun at the guardian in one of the "new" missions on Earth. I can't believe you're here trying to make excuses for them. By the way, I got a bridge for sale if you're interested.

  • Is that video cut-content or did they just decide to change the story? you can't just assume anything without actually knowing.

  • Change the story to what? There basically is no story. You go around and Dinklage says esoteric things while you shoot aliens, the end. In the words of the speaker: "I could tell you about the great war". But he doesn't. That's about as far as the story goes. Here's what I do know. They lied about a lot of things before the game was released. There's absolutely no reason to believe that they didn't also lie about selling us the full game. Do you honestly believe that what we got was 5 years worth of work? Maybe from an amateur studio working on very first project from the ground up, but not from Bungie. That bridge is still for sale, by the way. I've gotten a lot of offers but I'm holding on to it just for you.

  • Jon disagrees. Therefore must be troll. Nice logic there.

  • Where did I call him a troll? I might have implied that he's a naive moron who should totally buy this bridge from me, but never a troll. Learn to read before you post, clown.

  • I think you might be confused because I offered to sell him a bridge. It's an old saying used when you're talking to someone who is gullible or naive. "If you believe that, then I've got a bridge to sell you." A long time ago a con man actually sold the Brooklyn Bridge multiple times to people with more money than brains, like our dear friend Jon. "If you believe that, I've got an expansion to sell you."

  • /facepalm I've heard of that.. But that same saying is also used at, you guessed it. Trolls, so they can go live under it. My bad! :P

  • Well I guess it's an added bonus that the bridge I have for sale can also be lived under. Jon's getting a hell of a deal, a bridge and a habitat!

  • yes I do believe it took them 5 years to make the game because they had to make one game for 4 DIFFERENT consoles and they had to implement seamless multiplayer matchmaking. that along with development for the first dlc. so yeah I would think it would be at least 5 years for that

  •
If they had voice-overs, Actual bosses, and playable missions i would agree. But you don't all you have to show is, what seems to me, unfinished content.
I'm not agreeing with the outrage here, but they do have the voice-overs, probably actual bosses and the missions are so simple they have to be at least play test ready. The reason they have the voice-overs is because when you make a long term game you don't want to put yourself at risk of having to switch voice-actors, so you get them to read over their lines for all DLC and content updates during the initial recording session and then come back for any tweaks or rescripts later. Imagine going to record the next set of DLC voice-overs and realising that Nathan Fillon can't fit it into his schedule. Do you bring in a different character, or maybe have someone revoice all the characters lines, or do you do that soap opera thing of having the character just change to someone else for no reason? The thing about all this is that it's not a big deal. It's not cut content because the game remains in a constant state of development. This is how persistant world games long term games like MMOs do content generation and they're all very open about it. Expansions and content updates are created early and released over time in packages to a fixed schedule for a better playing experience. If they release everything they have as soon as it's complete you end up with broken progression and flaky content releases. You'll have nothing to do for four months and then too much to do in a matter of weeks. It sounds dumb but as a player when it comes launching one of these games you want them to have the first three major content patches loaded up and ready to go when the core game launches. Look at the state of the game. Loot caves everywhere, the Queen's Wrath mission screw-up has a ton of people at Rank 30, bugs all over the place and a bunch of other generally chaotic things happening. Now imagine if while dealing with those problems they also had to focus on getting a batch of new content ready to play. You see it a lot with MMORPGs. They'll launch and then you don't see one shred of content for 9 months because they're busy fixing all the game breaking bugs that weren't visible until thousands of people were playing together. Either that or they do the opposite and ignore all the game breaking bugs while trying to pump out new content in an attempt to stop everyone from leaving. This is also the reason why Vault of Glass didn't open when the game launched even though on paper it was 100% ready to go. It was a precaution. If there had of been an exploit that let you shoot a million rockets per second and completely nuke any content they would have been able to delay Vault of Glass until it was fixed. Likewise if there was some sort of infinite loot bug that would let you get to Rank 30 in an hour by just farming the first Vault of Glass boss that would mean that players would do that and not have anything to run until December. That's why they slammed the breaks so hard on the Queen's Wrath mission rewards breaking down into Legendary mats. They accidentally provided a shortcut that would put us all at Rank 30 within the first month. If that happens there will be a lot less people still playing when the first DLC drops.

it's called delegation. Not everyone is working on the same thing. Some people work bug fixes, some on DLC content, etc. etc. I doubt these issues are effecting there development schedule. As for the voice-overs. I doubt they have them all, granted they may have a few done. But the point I was making is that those voice-overs aren't in the actual game. When you go to King's watch there's no ghost dialogue or mission cut scenes. I'm trying to say that there's no cut content that's being used as DLC. They are still working on these DLCs with bug fixes, tweaks, etc. People on here are raging that they have these areas done already and loaded into the game when thats clearly not the case

Yeah, not only that but the install size is only 18GB, which is a lot smaller than I expected, so I really doubt they're hiding content on the disc from us. The only thing about that video that worries me, is that it's a bunch of Dark Below and House of Wolves missions in Old Russia, the Moon, Venus and Mars. So I hope at the very least (especially considering the price of the expansions) we get to go to brand new areas we haven't seen before, and it's not just different enemy sets and dialogue in the same environments we've been running around in the past few weeks. I was anticipating being able to see more planets and/or moons. At least there's a Raid in the Reef. And we do have a Crucible map on Mercury. Seems odd they would have that without planning on taking us there within the story. So hopefully once it releases the star map will expand and we can scroll down past the lower half of Earth and other places like Europa and Old Chicago will get added in, since there's concept art for it. Fingers crossed, I guess.

  • My install size for the digital Guardian edition was 18GB. But before release there were pictures of the back of packaging that said "40GB required". I haven't looked at any of the boxes myself though. http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/destiny-xbox-one-install-size-is-40gb

  • I doubt they would include content for new planets in patches since those areas aren't open for players yet. However the amount of DLC content for pre-existing planets is a little disheartening.

  • Yup for some reason people think icons on a map mean finished content. Place holders have been in games for such a long time.
