-A properly structured vegan diet usually only needs supplementation for B12, Vitamin D and iodine. Maybe DHA. If your anecdote is accurate, those people simply weren't doing it properly. -Most meat eaters need supplements too. -Our ability to digest meat says nothing about whether we need it or not. And basic nutrition tells us we don't. -And protein is abundant in plant foods.
