Yesterday, I dismantled two fully-leveled legendary weapons: The Grim Citizen III and The Swarm. I made it a point to note how many Ascendant Energies each weapon yielded.
The Grim Citizen III had the 3rd damage upgrade, which required 6 Ascendant Energies. After dismantling it, I received 6 Ascendant Energies.
The Swarm only had up to the 2nd damage upgrade, which required no Ascendant Energies. After dismantling it, I received 5 Ascendant Energies.
I thought you normally just get 2-3 Ascendant Materials per legendary!?!? (Not complaining, just baffled)
Questions:
1. Does leveling up your weapons/gear affect the number of Ascendant materials that you get when you dismantle the weapon/gear?
2. Does upgrading your weapons/gear affect the number of Ascendant materials that you receive when you dismantle the weapon/gear?
3. Is it truly random? Do I have to pray to RNGesus each time?
4. What is the usual or maximum yield per weapon? Per Armor?
I'm planning to do more testing within the next days, and I'll record the dismantling each time to be more scientific. In the meantime, can anyone please confirm/debunk if this is a myth or share a similar experience?
Thanks in advance!

Edited by Cageboy: 10/4/2014 5:12:18 PMI always get more gun parts and armor materials out of upgraded weapons, but its always less then i put in. Do weapons you have leveled but haven't actually purchased the upgrades return the same as leveled with upgrades paid for? If that's the case I may start saving unwanted legendaries so I can turn a few bounties in with them first. My main guns are waiting on materials and not xp anyway.
