STOP racing through the Strikes if you actually want Legendary Rewards

It's getting to be a common thing now during the Lvl 24 Strikes that I see these kids race as fast as they can through the Strike usually hopping on their speeder bypassing the first several mobs of lower level enemies which is fine but then they continue on and bypass as many of the Lvl 24 enemies as they can just to get to the final boss quicker. Why? The boss gives you nothing and your chances of getting anything worthwhile from the end game roll are poor odds for the amount of time it takes to complete each Strike. Your best shot of getting a Legendary Engram drop or at least multiple blue Engrams to give you a chance at Legendary gear and to rank up the Cryptarch is to kill every Lvl 24 enemy up to the boss because that is where all of my Legendary Engrams have come from and I get at least half of my blue Engrams from Mob drops to go along with what I get in the end game roll. The Lvl 24 Tiger Strikes since the last patch appear to have a higher drop rate than the normal game modes at least in the areas you're facing Lvl 24 enemies, and so bypassing them to finish the Strike faster is just decreasing your chance of getting multiple drops. There's little other reason to be grinding Lvl 24 Strikes in that manner because you can earn Vanguard rep faster farming Patrols, Vanguard Marks faster farming Public Events, and if you need a bunch of Strikes for a Bounty run the Lvl 8 Devil's Lair on Earth and get them done quick. So don't be that guy that runs way out ahead of everyone else. Don't waste you and your teammates chances for more Legendary/Exotic drops. It doesn't take but an extra 5 minutes or so to clear out all the Lvl 24 enemies your bypassing between you and the Boss when you do it as a group.

  • I usually rush through except when I'm leveling a gun or gear. I don't care if people rush ahead. I'll catch up. I don't mind people staying back either they'll eventually catch up to me. Depends on your needs. Drops are random. It doesn't matter how many things you kill. It helps to kill them in one blow with super or rockets for drops. Anyway if it's blue or better it will be in my mailbox when I go back. Non issue #432

  •
your chances of getting anything worthwhile from the end game roll are terrible
And your odds of getting a Legendary Engram from any one mob are just as awful. If you want Legendary armor and weapons, you're much better off just grinding Marks and Rep and buying them directly. I get two Blues from the endgame roll quite frequently; any engrams I grab along the way are just icing on the cake. ALL of those Blues are dumped into Cryptarch rank with the intent of getting a Legendary from his rank-up package. I need to get through the Strikes quickly to build up my engram supply. So here's my counter-request: stop dragging your feet. That next Cryptarch package might have another Exotic for me, but I can't get it until we finish the Strike and I get my XP-grams. If you're going to the trouble of killing all those mobs in the Rocketyard, you're just wasting your time and mine.

  • The Nightfalls have all been easy, and for one of the bounties give you +3. The level 22 Heroic gives you +2. So for at least one bounty, it's better to do weekly. As for the 5 strikes without dying, why go through the snooze fest of level 8 Devil's Lair? The Tiger strikes add a challenge and makes the bounty fun. Finally, if the enemies are low level, then it is outside the darkness zone. At least in every strike I play. When it is outside the darkness zone, it is essentially the same as patrol. Kill all enemies in the darkness zone yes, but if they are low level, they aren't worth your time.

Why must people insist on telling others how to play this game? Unless you're planning on refunding people $60 for the game, why should anyone listen to this? If people are rushing through, that leaves plenty of mobs for you to kill. I get annoyed by people that get in strikes and kill everything outside of it. If I find they don't come into the strike (which happens quite frequently on Devil's Lair) I just leave. I'm not wasting time playing with people who annoy me. I'm also not going to tell anybody else how they should or should not play a game they spent $60 or more on.

  • You can thank the bounty system for that. Besides the strikes bring nothing new in form of content and the worlds most expensive game just wants you to shoot at a bullet sponge for an hour. So far I have not reaped any rewards for taking my time in each strike. Though I very much understand your point, I just don't think most gamers would agree with you in the form of Destiny's tone of rewards. Taking your time does not really matter. I swear it feels like I've done each strike about hundred times before, all with no plot, bad loot (though thats finally being fixed slowly) and no world saving purpose. Perhaps the only minimal redemption of running through a strike may lay in the form of a legendary/exotic item granted at the very end.

  • i haven't seen a single purple engram since I've started playing. nothing but blues and only getting legendary class mods like make of the six fronts. not having any legendary weapons is killing me in match play and its taking forever to get stuff good enough to do good damage

I'm reporting all the speedrunners. They can either go back to whatever MMO they came from (classic MMO behaviour) or fill up a fireteam before they pull that crap. The most annoying part about this is that they can't communicate their intentions, which is why they should do it in a private setting and not when matched with randoms. It's pretty much a given that people will skip low level mobs before the strike area has even started but it can get confusing during strikes and I've on numerous occassions found myself overrun by the mobs the speedrunners aggroed (first gate area on Mars is a good example. It's also complete BS that speedrunners can respawn everyone when they enter the next area).

      • I"m so sick of people complaining about the way others play. If you don't want to play with randoms, how hard is it to get TWO friends who play like you do? Are people that antisocial that they can not get two other people on a mic to play with them? You play with randoms, you have the same shot of getting what you want as when you gamble and buy Xur's engram.
The boss gives you nothing
You get 6 Vanguard Marks for completing the strike. When I do Lvl 24 Strikes, I do it for the marks, not for the random drops, which almost never occur. If I want to farm, I go on patrol. If I rush the strikes I can buy guaranteed legendaries. If I waste time shooting every little enemy, I will highly likely get nothing. If I get something (after hours of wasted time), it's probably just ascendant shards or an item i don't need / already have.
Vanguard Marks 5x faster farming Public Events
If I rush to every event, I may get 1 in 15 minutes. Sometimes they won't happen or just some hordes of enemies start fighting. If I remember right I get 4 (?) marks per event. Thats 20 per hour but probably only 12-16. If I rush Lvl 24 strikes, it takes 15 minutes (with Lvl 28) and I get guaranteed 24 marks per hour, 18 at worst, but still better than probably 12-16.

            • By wasting ammo and time on useless mobs you give yourself a chance to get greens, maybe a blue, and if you're having an extremely lucky day, a single legendary. At the end of the strike you will receive Vanguard Marks, Reputation, and at LEAST a few blues if not a Legendary. So, yes you can spend your time thoroughly killing any of the mobs that will undoubtedly spawn in as soon as you leave using time and ammo (which you will need to actually progress within the strike) but you're going to make it harder for yourself later on. Whether you do it or not, you'll still receive the completion rewards. By all means, go for it. But for someone like me who does it for completion (and frankly, because it's fun) don't complain when we do what we do. If you get some Legendaries or something along the way, more power to you.

              • How fast you do it has no bearing on what you get at the end. By not killing every single enemy, you might not get blue engrams, but other than that, it doesnt matter
