STOP racing through the Strikes if you actually want Legendary Rewards

It's getting to be a common thing now during the Lvl 24 Strikes that I see these kids race as fast as they can through the Strike usually hopping on their speeder bypassing the first several mobs of lower level enemies which is fine but then they continue on and bypass as many of the Lvl 24 enemies as they can just to get to the final boss quicker. Why? The boss gives you nothing and your chances of getting anything worthwhile from the end game roll are poor odds for the amount of time it takes to complete each Strike. Your best shot of getting a Legendary Engram drop or at least multiple blue Engrams to give you a chance at Legendary gear and to rank up the Cryptarch is to kill every Lvl 24 enemy up to the boss because that is where all of my Legendary Engrams have come from and I get at least half of my blue Engrams from Mob drops to go along with what I get in the end game roll. The Lvl 24 Tiger Strikes since the last patch appear to have a higher drop rate than the normal game modes at least in the areas you're facing Lvl 24 enemies, and so bypassing them to finish the Strike faster is just decreasing your chance of getting multiple drops. There's little other reason to be grinding Lvl 24 Strikes in that manner because you can earn Vanguard rep faster farming Patrols, Vanguard Marks faster farming Public Events, and if you need a bunch of Strikes for a Bounty run the Lvl 8 Devil's Lair on Earth and get them done quick. So don't be that guy that runs way out ahead of everyone else. Don't waste you and your teammates chances for more Legendary/Exotic drops. It doesn't take but an extra 5 minutes or so to clear out all the Lvl 24 enemies your bypassing between you and the Boss when you do it as a group.

  • I take it some people just want to level up there vanguard or clan level up. You can't think of them rushing with no point attached to it. Some people don't always have enough time but i do get what you mean. If people skip ahead then let them be and take your time to kill what they skip while you slowly caught up. There really no point in having a fit about it. Most of the time it's just luck but i did 15 strikes and walked away with 4 legendarys. All 4 games each player walked away with a legendary as well.

    • Most people run through the strikes because we've played them a bunch of times and get sick of playing the same thing over and over. Also since the strikes have a higher chance of legendary drops why not just run them as fast as possible to get marks and a possible legendary engram? It's more efficient than grinding out mobs which we could do on patrol right?

    • Ok I just ran a poll here that shows that speed runs are preferred to slow runs 69/31%. This indicates that, while speed runs are far more popular, there are still around 1/3 of players that prefer to take the strikes slow. Add to that our many new members who aren't voting, and we have a substantial group (at least 1 in every 3 guardians you match up with) that either prefer slow runs or don't know any better than to slow run. Why does this matter? Does this matter? That's a choice for you to make - but remember that the promise of this game is in the community of players and the opportunity to play the game together well. If this means all three members fire up their sparrows and race to the finish, or if it means that every enemy should be wiped before finishing the strike, that should be determined at the start of the match, and should include the views of all players. Perhaps some good can come from this conflict - Bungie could create two types of strikes: one that rewards the fastest strike finish time, and another that rewards the % of enemies wiped from the map. That would give folks a chance to try both play styles out, and create harmony and good will on both sides of the argument. So, next time you line up at the starting gate of a strike, why not take a look at your fireteam and make sure they are all on their sparrows before you take off - and if your fireteam jumps onto sparrows off the start, give it a shot yourself, you may find you like it!

      • Too right, Was levelling up my alt on sunday and got to the earth strike, matey boy hops on his sparrow after the mesh generator cluster-blam!-. Speeds off into the distance only to have the spider tank land right on top of him. I just watched and face palmed as the fallen walker teabagged him. Moral is, always give way to spider tanks kids.

        • I'm okay with skipping public area stuff, but when people try to race through the entire event, skipping any battle they can... I just don't get it. If you're not doing it to have fun and actually do the content, I wish you'd just find a group for speed racing that stuff. I think the default attitude is 'doing this for fun' rather than 'doing this to blow through it as quickly as possible,' and public play should reflect that. That said, a/ the game does ask for a lot of grinding from you, and b/ the threat of a disconnection hangs over many people's heads.

            • I run through them as fast as possible. I completely disagree with you on the quality of the end game rolls as I have gotten fantastic results from them. I also get significantly more engrams significantly faster by running straight through everything that is unnecessary for completion and completing the strike as fast as possible. I understand it can be frustrating if only one person does it in the strike, but at the same time I will not sit through the tedium of killing everything in the strike when I could complete three strikes in the same amount of time.

            • Level 29's and 30's don't want more gear. They're already capped. They just want to finish up bounties. If you see a level 20-28 rushing through, he's a -blam!-ing moron.

              • I hop on my speeder to go fast passing low level mobs. For Sepkis or Sceptic Tank Prime, I take my speeder in the zone, shoot till it launches at mobs like a missile. Why, because I'm a boss!

              • I have to politely disagree with you. My family and I when there are only 2 of us on and we are wanting to run the 22 or 24 strikes if it is a zone that we can speed through to get to the first ghost spawn we will. No sense wasting time killing guys when the point of running these strikes are for the XP and the reputation. If you want to kill 100's of guys for the lucky chance of a engram dropping do what people used to do. Cave farm or go to a high density patrol area where guys spawn constantly. My brother and I were on Devils lair and we had a guy just sit back in the beginning through the entire strike. We did all 3 waves in the first conflict. 2 man the giant tank thing and 2 man'd Septik PRime. He gets all the rewards with out ANY of the work. So no, i dont agree with you on killing everything in a strike when you could do that solo. Strikes are for completing as quickly and efficiently as possible.

              • If I may, here are two poems that sum up looting, before and after the update. Roses are red, Your item is blue. Your engram was purple, It sucks to be you. Roses are red, Your engram is blue. There are no more purples, It still sucks to be you. In the end, it is all the same. Bungie didn't help us, they simply tried to hush the complaints.

We'll just let them do their own thing, whether it's making it to the next segment of the Strike without us or dying (lol). As much as I'm trying to get Vanguard marks and rep, I just have fun fighting the enemies too! I get more enjoyment out of the game through the gameplay, not the reward.

                  • I agree with you accept I don't kill the low levels outside of the restricted spawn. As you pointed out the drop rate seems to be a lot higher inside the restricted spawn. Plus the enemies outside just keep coming. You could be out there all day. Once inside restricted spawn however make everything that moves stop moving!

                    • I'm going to have to politely disagree with the OP on this one. You can grind and farm in patrol mode by yourself, Strikes take long enough without waiting for people who are still a mile behind fighting silly leftover enemies that don't matter. Sorry but if I'm trying get a few strikes done before bed and you are still farting about cleaning up a couple of leftovers rather than proceeding to the boss and the rewards, it's actually you wasting my time, not the other way round. First thing I do is hop on my Sparrow and get on with it, I make no apologies for that.

                    • OP makes a valid point, but don't blame players for skipping some parts. A lot of people (myself included) are beyond tired of the same strike missions...it's past time for new strikes. Bungie should really consider giving us something new before the DLC. Also, most don't see the amount of legendary drops that you do. I do strikes for Vanguard marks/points, and for blue engrams that I can use to level up Cryptodouche, which gets me a package that might get me a legendary item, but usually gets me coins, light, or energy/shards.

                    • Yet again the Destiny community proves itself to be wrong yet again and trying to spread these ridiculous tactics like kill LESS mobs to get to the reward screen to get more rewards faster! When I played Diablo 3 and grind to 100 Paragon, we didn't operate on such stupidity. We figured out how to kill MORE and do it FASTER, therefore making it more EFFICIENT. Speedrunning strikes by skipping low+high lvl mobs is NOT EFFICIENT for loot. I don't really care what bounty you're there for or marks you're grinding. I grind for marks too but when I go into a strike, I play as a team and that means I'm going to be there killing stuff. Now you can either kill stuff with me so we can get this done FASTER and thereby INCREASING our chances for loot, or you can skip it and do it all yourself. That's your call. Like I've said previously, I don't mind skipping the low level free roam stuff, but once it says respawn restricted and the mobs are level 24, I don't skip that stuff. To address some of the OP's points though, the 24 strikes do not have a higher drop rate of engrams, at least not off of mobs. They have a higher rate of engrams on reward, however his idea is not completely wrong. The more stufff you kill and the faster you do it, the more loot you get which increases your odds of getting a legendary item. However, where I disagree is killing the low level free roam mobs. I don't kill those things and I go straight for the respawn restricted zone. Once there, THEN I will kill everything.

                      • I was doing strikes yesterday and 2 dudes raced past the public area. Then a public event happened, and im sure they werent notified because they had already loaded into the next area. The best part is one of the low lvl mobs dropped a legendary. So they missed the shard from the PE, and the chance at that purple. All while racing to the finish to collect that one blue

Yeah.. I have seen those guys too. They are just annoying. Most of the time I meet those guys I still fight every enemy that's in my way. As far as I care, these rushers can rush if they want to.. but they can also die (only ingame, if course) because if it. They are as annoying as those "I'm after that 'Finish a strike without dying'"-guys. You know.. those people that hide every time it gets harder so they wont die. But I have to say I love it when people try doing this on moons strike. At the end boss there is one spot (next to the cliff) where people love to hide, because they can shoot everything from there.. but they are almost not to hit by enemy fire. I'm a warlock.. I push them always down the cliff if they hang out there. I don't like glitchers, bugusers, leechers and rushers. I'm pretty sure those guys don't like me either :D Edit: Problem is.. my english is pretty bad and I know my initial post is responsible for this.. uhm.. I'd like to call it a shitstorm. It's not easy to describe the situation I was facing there. There was this landing pad were sometimes a few dropships bring in some new troops. That's a place those guys could see. They also could see this ramp (?) that led to the main part of this room and just a few feet from that part. When I saw them a few of those enemies that came via drop ship walked up that ramp and than just stood there. A few of them moved back to their waypoints (as if you have walked out of their "area". At some point npc's stop following you and walk back to their positions) or engaged me. Ranged enemies only shot at that rock between themselfs and my two party members while one of them just shot back without getting hit. Everything else in that room was attacking just me.. enemies that walked up the other ramp as well. I'm not a prick.. A lot of times I meet people on earths strike who hide - for exsample - as far away from that walking tank as they can while firing a few rounds here and there. I'm okay with that. Those guys may often be not very usefull, but at least they draw some attention in their direction.. or do some damage. At least those guys try to contribute something to the team instead of.. sacrificing it for their own goals. But that one case I tried to explain was, that two guys glitched in an area they were not supposed to be (how the AI acted proofes that in my opinion) and as a result I was reduced to cannon fodder. All those wizzards and knights in that room were on me.. thank's to those guys funny glitch back than. I also was worried about getting banned myself. Those guys were part of my strike team, using glitches and I was on their spot as well while trying to figure out what thos two guys were up to. After I saw it I pushed them (so they respawn back ON the map) and jumped back in the fight as well. After this we all finished that strike as it's supposed to and everything was fine.
