You get 6 Vanguard Marks for completing the strike.
When I do Lvl 24 Strikes, I do it for the marks, not for the random drops, which almost never occur. If I want to farm, I go on patrol.
If I rush the strikes I can buy [u]guaranteed[/u] legendaries. If I waste time shooting every little enemy, I will highly likely get [u]nothing[/u]. If I get something (after hours of wasted time), it's probably just ascendant shards or an item i don't need / already have.

If I rush to every event, I may get 1 in 15 minutes. Sometimes they won't happen or just some hordes of enemies start fighting. If I remember right I get 4 (?) marks per event. Thats 20 per hour but probably only 12-16.
If I rush Lvl 24 strikes, it takes 15 minutes (with Lvl 28) and I get guaranteed 24 marks per hour, 18 at worst, but still better than probably 12-16.

Not true actually. I have had at least 1-2 blue drops a strike by killing every single legendary. I have been able to buy 2 legendary guns with my marks. I have gotten 10+ Legendary guns from BLUE engrams just from drops.

Yeah, you honestly are lucky. In about 6 hours of play time my brother got five legendary engrams while I got none, also he got two shaders from the cryptarch mail. I have more play time but less to show for it because of RNG, only thing I got lucky with is the thorn bounty and pocket infinity but other than that nothing. Only thing I have been lucky with is mote of lights which I got about 70 more than my brother at this point.
